@micki48 way to go meeting your step goal every day!
I have a busy day today. Will get some walking in later 😊
I made those egg muffins with the recipe you shared @MaddawgMadsen! I made veggies one and they came out good! I could have just put more cheese in them 🤷🏼♀️
Discussion Question
What are some triggers that lead you to overeating? Have you found any tips/tricks that work to help/prevent this?

@micki48 Looks like it was a great week for you. What was the difference maker?
@lauren_989 i am a very emotional eater so any emotion good or bad and I feel like food is deserved. Social events where others are eating. Poor planning on my end where i allow myself to get too hungry. Those kinds of things.
@MaddawgMadsen Hope things go well with your Mom. That's not an easy item to navigate but it's great you confronted it head on rather than avoiding it now and paying the price later.1 -

@strong_fit_ells Maxi is stunning!!
@lauren_989 my overeating comes from stress, tiredness and feeling powerless. My solution is really just to white-knuckle it, recognise when those triggers are making me want to overeat and to take control over the one thing I can control, which is what I put in my body. I'm getting better at it, but it's a struggle, I have a long history of uncontrolled binging to overcome.

I didn't answer my own question. I definitely get triggered by stress. And I think I'm a very anxious person, so I get stressed easily. Most of the time I get stressed (especially at work) I look for chocolate. And it's usually easy to find. Supervisors like to feed us chocolate/candy/food when work is busy or just because. The last time I realized I was stressed, I went to look for chocolate, realized what I was doing. I went back to my office, took some deep breaths and had a sip of tea. That worked just as well!
I will also say that if I eat of lot of sugary foods (cookies, candy, etc) several days in a row, it starts my craving for it. This happened over the recent holidays and I need to get back to my sugar free desserts or fruit.2 -

Re: discussion question. Absolutely I get triggered by stress. And usually that means eating more. But sometimes, if it is work-related stress that is particularly intense, I actually lose my appetite and end up eating less for a day or two. Especially on work from home days, I could skip breakfast and lunch and then be over hungry by dinner, which of course doesn't end well either. It's created a bad dynamic mentally, because sometimes I embrace that stress-that-reduces-appetite because it can lead to a small drop in weight. But that's temporary, since stress overall is highly correlated with weight gain.
I am a little stressed about tomorrow, actually. I am going to go see a used car in person (assuming this dealership is open, which I have to confirm first thing - it's a US holiday), and I know very little about cars, and if I do like the car, I want to try to negotiate their price down, ideally $1000-$1500 less than they have it posted for. So that's nerve-wracking. And then at 1pm, I am meeting up with a friend to go to a museum that is free entry for the holiday. But this is a new friend that I met through another friend who doesn't live in this area, and this will only be the 2nd time we have hung out just the 2 of us. She is super nice, but just that awkward-can-we-be-real-friends-instead-of-acquaintances stage.

Happy Monday everyone! So much to catch up on!
The meeting with the lawyer, my mom, and my sister went better than I expected. My mom said repeatedly that she has been railroaded. First with us "forcing" her to move to Colorado and then with us demanding that she do the estate planning. We got everything squared away with the lawyer who sent us home with a 15-page questionnaire to fill out. I spent a few hours yesterday going over the questionnaire with my mom and sent it in today. She only had one breakdown around page 13 where she said she couldn't keep going, but somehow we managed to push through together. By the end of it, she did thank us and said that she knows we only did it out of love. She did seem more at peace with all of it by the time I left her house yesterday.
My knee feels better. I went to the CrossFit gym on Saturday and did a lot of stretching, and caught up with my core challenge workouts. To be honest, I ended up with the best accountability partner for the challenge. She is one of the trainers at the gym, and while she is in WAY better shape than me, she has the perfect amount of energy and insight to keep me striving to do better. Anyways, my knee was sore after Saturday's trip to the gym and it was sore off and on yesterday. Today, it feels a lot better. Spin class was canceled, so I really haven't had a lot of exercise outside of Saturday's open gym. I plan to make it back to CrossFit tomorrow (with a brace!).
@strong_fit_ells - Maxi is freaking adorable! I remember when you told us you were getting her. I'm glad to see she's grown into a such an awesome fur baby for you!
@lauren_989 - those egg muffins look delicious!

Am I the only one that noticed we are the only team that has been over 50% in the green every week so far this year? We need to collectively pat ourselves on the back and keep it going!
@lauren_989 - I have two big triggers for over eating. On work days, it happens if I forget to eat something before my morning walk. I get back from the walk so hungry that I eat all the snacks. The other trigger happens most in the evening or over the weekends - boredom. I grew up as an only child and was bored, a lot! And, what is more fun when you are bored; cleaning your room or eating an entire bag of chips or half of a pie with whipped cream or ice cream while binge watching hours of TV? As an adult, it happens a lot around my husband whose only drive for together time is in front of a TV. So, evenings and weekends.
@ashleycarole86 -
Thursday, January 16 - 3,719 steps (no workouts in lieu of icing and resting my knee)
Friday, January 17 - 6,023 steps
Saturday, January 18 - 5,135 steps - 1 hour of core workout and stretching
Sunday, January 19 - 3,879 steps (it really seems like it should be more because I had an hour spent walking around the store, and three hours of standing and meal prepping)3 -

Discussion Question

I overeat mostly in social settings for a variety of reasons:
- One reason is because other people, my friends and family that I love, are eating and enjoying food around me and they offer me some. In the past, I would feel guilty by telling someone no if they offered me food or a drink. I have gotten better at this over time, not by limiting the amount of social outings I do, but by being present and enjoying the food and drink until I am satisfied, not stuffed. And if I don’t want more, it’s okay to take home leftovers to share if the food was tasty.
- Another reason is I was raised in a household where the goal after every meal was to have a clean plate. If you didn’t, it was viewed as wasteful and ungrateful. There’s quite a bit of socioeconomic and parental expectations tied to this one that I have worked hard to overcome by meal prepping and eating leftovers regularly.
- The last is due to a mentality I picked up in my first go-around in dieting; the cheat meal/day. For me, my cheat meals were going out with my husband, or friends, or family, and splurging on that tempting “forbidden” food or drink I could not have on any other day of the week. I’ve gotten better at this by enjoying smaller treats throughout the week, instead of focusing on them occurring all on one single day.

I'm blaming this one on random fluctuation/weighing in differently than I usually do. Been sticking to it this week, so fingers crossed next week has a drop!2 -
I have a flu! Or food poisoning. But thinking flu. An icky stomach thing that's had me glued to the washroom. Just resting and trying to feel better! Hope to be back to my regular tomorrow (or at least close)5

@ashleycarole86 feel better soon! The norovirus is going around the US, not sure about Canada.
@MaddawgMadsen glad the visit with the lawyer went well! 15 pages of questions is a lot!
I'm doing ok today. I didn't share earlier, but had surgery yesterday. Doing well recovering, but I can't lift more than 10 pounds, jog, etc for the next 6 weeks. So my activity will be very limited this week. I hope to start walking some as soon as my body feels up to it. Today will just be relaxing and hopefully stretching a little.3 -
Jan 18 - 8129 steps + 32 minutes Peloton
Jan 19 - 2632 steps (sick)
Jan 20 - 2245 steps (sick)
Glad your surgery went okay @lauren_989 - will you be off work for the week? Take care of you.. lots of rest
Still not 100% over my illness.. really weak and sore still and my stomach is super shaky.2 -

I'm technically off for 6 weeks. I'm hoping I can go back early working from home, but I am scheduled off of work until March 3.
I hope you feel better soon!2 -
@MaddawgMadsen - So good to hear everything ended up going well with your mom and the lawyer, I'm sure it wasn't easy.
@Lauren_989 - wishing for a quick recovery.
I'm slowly going back into some old habits of evening snacking the last 3 days. I'm an emotional eater when I'm stressed and starting to feel it with my finance class I"m taking. I know I can get through it with better habits. Regardless my movement has been on par and I've been getting my morning workouts in. That is my current non-negotiable even if it's for 30 min before work, my mood and mind are in a better place.

@lauren_989 I hope you recover swiftly! Take it easy!
@MaddawgMadsen I'm glad you got there with your mom, it's not easy but so necessary.
Well, the 2 weeks after the holidays ended seemed to be looking up, but things have crashed and burned again here, and this time I have a 4 legged maniac to deal with lol. Ah well, half the reason I've lost so much weight and improved my fitness so much is that whenever things start going to hell at home, I go for a hike, so at least the physical stuff will keep improving (for all that I need an alternative to hiking right now, it's too hot and the slithery friends are all out). I'm just so tired of convincing myself maybe this time things will get better, and having them all go to hell again.3 -
@ashleycarole86 we are twinning! I think I had food poisoning last night! I am on a medication that can bring nausea if I don't follow other guidelines, so I assumed it was that at first, but I was up basically half the night being sick and that's never happened before with this med. Googling "symptoms of food poisoning" at 4am was a super fun start to the day. Luckily, my work team is pretty flexible, so after sleeping through all my alarms, I pinged my boss that I needed to be remote today.
I might try to have some rice for dinner... haven't had food all day.
@MaddawgMadsen great that things went well with the lawyer. And love the pic from your accountability partner! She seems high energy just from that post haha
@lauren_989 good luck in recovery! Glad it went well
@Alatariel75 ugh sorry to hear things are crashing and burning. hang in there!2 -

Pretty happy with this! Life's still been disrupted with the little fella, but I'm getting my routine back and have adjusted my eating to suit my change in awake hours.
I may or may not have found the last box of left over Christmas chocolates, and they may or may not be with us any longer, but at least they're out of the house now.2
