The schedule this week is College Football Playoff games Thursday and Friday nights, and NFL playoff games Saturday, Sunday and Monday.

What do you expect from your favorite team(s) or player(s)? What about those teams you love to hate? Where will your NFL team be picking in the draft? This thread is here for all your football talk.

I’m torn - part of me appreciates the fact that the Pats played to win, and part of me misses the trade haul from the #1 pick that would have helped the rebuild. It’s about 60% the former. And hey, Joe Milton was more mature under center than a lot of #1 draft picks over the past decade!

Going forward? Well, I don’t want KC to get the three-peat. I’d be fine seeing Lamar Jackson lose to Pittsburgh - again. I’d like to see the Bills and Lions in the Super Bowl, because they both play “team football”. That means I’d miss seeing the complete redemption of Sam Darnold, which I’ve been enjoying as a poke in the eye to Jets management.

What’s Aaron Rodgers gonna be doing next August? As long as it gets him off-stage, I don’t really care. That’s almost enough motivation to get me hoping the Jets bring back Rex Ryan as coach, given his comments.

The rest of the teams? Meh.

It comes with some reluctance, but this is the time of the season when I revert to my roots and actually want good things to happen to the Buckeyes. An OSU vs ND national championship game would be delightful.

In the NFL, screw Pittsburgh and let the remaining chips fall where they will. I'd love to see a Lake Erie Super Bowl with Buffalo and Detroit. I'm quasi-invested in the Vikings and will be happy if they can overcome a tough loss to Detroit. It will be a great story if they do!

My perennially QB-needy Browns tanked their season in fine fashion and will be picking number 2. Ordinarily I'd be opposed to taking a QB in what is said to be a weak draft at that essential position, but tbh we see the common wisdom flipped on its head so frequently that I'm now kinda YOLO! Draft all the QBs, and let God sort 'em out, lol.

Very disappointed in how the Ducks lost. I don't really have any interest any longer. And, Jerry Jones will continue to manage the Cowboys into perpetual mediocrity, so there's that.

My attention is now on English Premier League soccer and the upcoming baseball season.

The Cowboys need to keep Mike McCarthy and get a new GM.

I'm fine with McCarthy as the coach, even though his end-of-game management can be frustrating sometimes. Jerry won't give up the GM title as long as he owns the team. His son Stephen has a lot to say in running the team, and I think he is worse at it that Jerry is.

The Notre Dame/ Penn State game starts in a couple of hours. I'd like to see ND win. It will be interesting to see if the Texas/ Ohio State game goes off without a hitch tomorrow night as the DFW area has been getting snow and freezing rain all day today. It usually takes us a few days to get back to normal.

Ohio State seems to be a heavy favorite to beat Notre Dame next week. That seems about right.

It’s interesting that two of the twelve NFL quarterbacks that started this weekend are rookies, and both on teams that hadn’t made the playoffs for a while.

Also interesting to see the #1 and #3 picks from 2018 both in the playoffs after less than stellar results with their first three teams. Maybe there’s hope for the rest of us to change our lives for the better!

@crewahl - how are you feeling about NE hiring Mike Vrabel? I've never been all in on him, but he reportedly did good work in an evolving consulting role with the Browns this season.

I'm looking forward to the Vikings game this evening. I believe they'll get past the Rams. 🤞

I’m not all in, per se, but I think he’s the right coach for right now. He’ll bring two things that I think the team lacked this yearn.
    • A network of experienced coaches willing to work for and with him. He'll bring in some of the expertise that Mayo simply lacked the network to draw from. I think the fact the Pats went from one of the top defenses to tpnear the bottom is largely based on selecting DeMarcus Covington, which was more availability than ability.
    • Discipline in execution. I think the number of penalties the Patriots incurred this season, particularly on the offensive line, is a coaching issue. I think the mainstream press was overly critical about Mayo, but this was the one issue where they could and should have gotten better as the season went on, and they didn’t. It cost them games.

I don’t expect them to play in the Super Bowl next year, and it’s a tougher division now with the maturity of Josh Allen. We’re gonna be looking up at the Bills for a while, but contending for the playoffs until the last two weeks of the season is reasonable for next year.

So, they are two years away from being two years away?

2-3 years from playoffs, I think. They need at least two good drafts.

The Cowboys are in the market for a new head coach. Too early for a candidate list, but Dion Sanders would be the kind of attention getter that Jerry Jones loves.

I’m not sure there’s room for two egos of that size in Frisco.

Have I ever mentioned how much I dislike Jerry Jones?

These are difficult days here in the frozen north. Falling behind early was most certainly NOT in the game plan!
