Maraschino cherries have red dye # 3? Kids valentine candies? Holy Smokes! Remember that potent carcinogen, Agent Orange, used as a defoliant during the Vietnam War? How many of you besides Al and me are Vets?

To my knowledge Maraschino cherries are the only dye colored item we've had in our fridge and they've been gone for months. I will say there won't be anymore. We don't eat fruity or different colored cereals. What I am concerned about is what DW and I are consuming when we go out to eat.

This YouTube appeared about 3 months ago from RFK Jr. I found it to be eye opening.

I am not a vet, nor are my parent/s.

    Google search:

    FORTUNE

Ensure Nutritional Shakes: Flavors like strawberry and peach have been known to contain Red Dye No. 3.
    DELISH

Fruit Cocktails: Some canned fruit mixtures have used the dye to enhance the appearance of cherries and other fruits.

Jell-O and Gelatin Desserts – Flavored varieties like cherry or strawberry.
Canned Fruits – Especially those with artificially colored cherries in fruit cocktail mixes.
Gummy Candies – Certain types like gummy worms and bears.
Frosting and Cake Decorations – Pre-made frosting in red or pink shades.
Chewing Gum – Beyond Dubble Bubble, other brands of bubble gum used the dye.
Candied Apples – The bright red glaze often contained Red Dye No. 3.
Cotton Candy – Red or pink varieties of this fairground treat.
Hard Candies – Such as cinnamon-flavored candies or red suckers.
Energy Drinks and Flavored Waters – Certain brands used it for vibrant red hues.

Not a Vietnam Vet, but a Cold War Navy Vet.

For clarity, I am a Vietnam ERA Vet. Never in-country. USAF '62-'70. Closest was Korea, in '69.
As I go to the VA hospital, I finally found a "Vietnam Era Vet" cap to fit in.
