Hey everyone! I saved this in my draft yesterday and then had to get out it and ran out of time. So here is LTL Thursday.
This is a thread for everyone. If you're new to GoaD, or to weight loss, your questions and comments are always welcome. If you're maintaining, or a long-term loser, your thoughts on the topic may be just what someone else needs to hear. If you're reading this, join in the discussion!
Each weekday, a new topic is offered up for discussion.
Monday - crewahl (Charlie)
Tuesday – Wildcard
Wednesday-misterhub (Greg)
Thursday -imastar2 (Derrick)
Friday - Wildcard
Today's Topic: The Hardest Part
In your estimation, what is the hardest part of the effort to lose weight and keep it off?

Too many snacks. My apples are more calories than Fiber One bars.0

It. Never. Ends.
This is a war of attrition; it’s all day ,every day, every meal, every snack. Simply put, it can grind down your (my?) resolve just by virtue of the never-ending persistence of the process. It’s like a boxing match with a heavyweight; you have to defend yourself every time, but the puncher only has to get through your defenses once.1 -

I can't say it better than this. The price of weight management is eternal vigilance1 -

I think the hardest part is the varying focus and motivation. When weight-loss/management is my priority, I know exactly what to do and it's easy to stick to my plan. When it's not a priority, then I don't stick to my plan as well, extra snacks and drinks creep in, and my weight goes up.
The problem is that I don't really understand how the switch gets flipped. It seems that there are times where I feel motivated, but I never get in the groove. There are other times where I am only somewhat motivated, and all of a sudden everything clicks and I can execute my plan without any real problems.
I assume this has something to do with an underlying psychology, but I just don't understand it.2 -
Keep going even when it isn’t going well. I had an issue early when I blew up my points making a mistake in a restaurant. When I realized the scope of my misstep my first reaction was - start over tomorrow.
But then I thought “where in WW does it say to quit tracking when you’re over your number?” This was really the start of my initial tracing project, 5 yrs, good days and bad.
Years later I thought I was going to blow the goal weight + 2 lbs lifetime limit. I was talking myself into skipping the meeting. It was the lat day of the month. Went & faced the music. Toughest thing I did on WW. GW + 2 right on the nose. I shaped up starting that day.0 -

I'm gonna have to chime in with Steve here. The more I drill down on what’s going on when I struggle, the more I conclude it would take a fair amount of therapy to get actionable plans to deal with the “why” of my struggles. For whatever reason - fear, economics, fragile male ego, unwillingness to do the work - I’ve apparently chosen to live with the symptoms rather than treat the disease.
On the plus side, at least I’m not blaming my parents. 🤷🏻♂️😉0
