Hello, Men over 60!
Have you tried to lose weight by changing what you eat only to get bored with salads and chicken dishes? I have! I mean, really, how many times a week can you eat salad? Rabbit food? Am I right?
Well, I'm here to tell you salads are only limited by your imagination. I actually sat down the other day and made a list of how many different ways I could make salad. I went on the internet and came up with more than 75 variations of salads. If I used a different recipe every day, I could have a salad for lunch every day for more than 2 months. How could someone get bored with eating something different every day.
You don't have to fill your fridge with 100 different ingredients either. Just make a list of the salads you like, then pick 6 from the list and shop for those.
I stock my fridge and pantry with little salad goodies you might find on the salad bar. Sliced olives, kalamata olives, blocks of cheese to grate over salad, bleu cheese crumbles, feta cheese crumbles, parmesan, 7 lo-fat/low calorie salad dressings, croutons, fried onions, bacon (baked in the oven, not fried and kept in a ziploc bag in the freezer), carrots, celery, spring onions (aka green onions), radishes, edamame, frozen peas, hard-boiled eggs and much more. Let your palate be your guide.
Pair your salad with a cup of home-made soup and you have a great low calorie, low fat, low carb, low sugar, heart smart lunch.
If you need more salad ideas, look for my Sailor Jon's Salad recipes on MFP food page.
Until we meet again, JUICE to you all!
