Finally, I noticed it is February.
About to go have dinner, sorry if there was any confusion with my post, Joe's appointment is just an annual checkup.

Days go so fast. Yes, and before we know it March.
I had surgery yesterday. Cochlear implant. It is a bit of an ouch but has made me dizzy and nauseous. Back to soft foods, no chewing.
Family drama but not mine. Brooks’ one sister who we would have liked to come to his retirement ceremony had a bad fracture of her tib/fib. She had surgery and not able to attend. His older sister who he is not close to wants to come. She is manic depressive and not in control. She has not been compliant with her meds and has no boundaries. Brooks tried to beat around the bush about her not attending. He finally had to flat out tell her he didn’t want drama or her craziness. He had sent his 97 y/o mother an invitation knowing she couldn’t come but the sister then sent it to cousins he had not seen or talked to in years. She is so inappropriate. She then told Brooks she thought it was going to be a big family reunion. His military retirement ceremony? Ugh.0 -
Mihani, we get so much use out of our air fryer too. I love it. We've gotten a ton of use out of the instant pot, but lately with our plantage meals and less cooking it hasn't been in use. Your talk about potatoes has me craving them. I do love my starches. It is one thing after the other at your work place. Are you back on track now after the cyber attack?
I thought you were doing some prep for surgery, I didn't realize that you were getting the procedure done already, Donna. Is it all done now or is there further setup required? How are you feeling today? Sorry about the family drama. I hope it all works out in Brooks' favor. Is the ceremony happening in February? How is Brooks feeling about it all?
Not only are we snowed in here, but in a very rare occurrence, it has remained below freezing here for the most part since it snowed, so it is sticking around. And, there is more in the forecast. Lucky for us we are happy to stay home.
And! The owner of Plantage is having her son drop off our food. We felt bad and tried to talk her out of it, but she insisted. It is probably a 40 minute drive each way. We cleared a spot to pull in at the bottom of the driveway and Joe will meet him down there. Then we'll have another weeks worth of food for dinners and will do a Whole Foods delivery order for anything else we need.
Happy Friday!0 -
Happy Friday!
A spot opened up earlier in the OR schedule so I took it! Today was much better. Less dizziness and a little bit steadier on my feet. Hardly any pain and controlled with Tylenol. As long as I don’t bend down I am good. My implant gets activated in 30 days. Hopefully it will help.
Best news my iron levels are the highest they have ever been! Haven’t had a transfusion of iron in over a year. My ldl and triglycerides which were normal before were a tad lower and also more importantly the VLDL (very low density lipoproteins ) was 20! Previously it was 24. Waiting on A1c.
Carla, that is such good customer service from Plantage. Are you still loving the food? What was for dinner tonight?
We just got back from walking the dogs. I took little Miss Perfect, Cleo….Brooks took Mr. Grubby pants and O1K. I walked with the cane just in case.0 -
Congrats on your awesome lab results. Hard work paying off! Kind of nice that a spot opened and you were able to get the surgery without all of the waiting and worrying. Smart move walking with the cane. Better to be safe!
We're still enjoying the plantage food. There is a lot of variety and most of the meals are really good. There's the odd one here or there that doesn't do it for us, but when it eventually ends up on the menu again, we swap it out for one of the alternate dishes. Last night we had burritos with red sauce, guac and crema. That's what we'll probably have tonight too, though it is nice to have different options depending on how we're feeling.
Our walk outside yesterday didn't go great. Poor Radar with his short fur and tender tootsies isn't made for cold weather. He got too cold very early on and Joe carried him back to the house. We all just went back in. Today I will go out with Ruby because she was made for this weather and loves it.0 -
Great lab results, Bisky! Glad you are recovering well.
Carla, I have had dogs that could barely be outside before their feet would freeze and they would be falling down so I'd have to carry them in. Some dogs seemed impervious.
Been a decent day. Only stayed at the office about 5 hours. I am going to work from home tomorrow so I can do laundry and things around here, run some errands, visit family.

Carla, I just realized that I could get a food delivery now that I am not on base! I was really in a routine of protein coffee shake in am, soup or salad for lunch and soup or salad for dinner. Then add in potatoes, rice and beans to either soup or salad. Nuts, apples and seed crackers for snacks.
Mihani,I hope you get all that you want to accomplished tomorrow.
I am hoping to make some more VD cards and another pot of spring vegetable soup with cannellini beans. Using the mirepoix mix from TJ ‘was well as cut up broccoli and cauliflower plus spinach at the end. Might add green beans too this time.
Today veg soup for lunch, midafternoon sweet potatoes in air fryer and tomato soup for dinner. Can’t have anything chewy or crunchy..can’t open my jaw all the way. Brooks made me gluten free banana bread…but not vegan today. The meds and surgery have made me nauseous. A1c was 5.3! Despite waking up to the room spinning we did a 40 min walk with dogs.

How's the card making going Bisky?
I made roasted mini-peppers using the air fryer. I used a liner and did them on roast at 375 and it took about 15 minutes. Now making some "fried" potatoes. I love the air fryer so much that I can't believe I waffled so long about getting one.
It's going to be a super busy week so I have one more day of starch blaster left then I'll be eating Forks Over Knives entrees, salads, potatoes and steamed veggies the rest of the week. I will have time on Friday or Saturday to make another batch.
I've been listening to plant based podcasts in the car. Trying to immerse myself in it again to stay on track. I'm down 9 pounds since mid-January and I'm eating a lot, just eating the right things consistently not blowing it on weekends, and NO oil. Also cut way back on nuts/seeds. Big thing is having fruit and raw veggies handy for snacking, and I can put a little of the starch blaster concoctions in a coffee cup and nuke it for a quick filling snack.

Today Joe is going to try to get out of the driveway. Actually, I'm pretty sure he can get out, the question is if he'll be able to get back up when he returns!
I have been dealing with a migraine the last few days and it is still hanging on today. I have a sore neck too so maybe things are out of alignment.
Awesome job on the weight loss, Mihani. 9 pounds is seriously impressive.
Hope to see your cards, bisky! How is your jaw doing now?
We had Mongolian soy curls with green beans and rice last night and I think tonight we're doing the burritos again. I need to come up with a savory breakfast that doesn't include Ezekiel english muffins and is easy to make.0 -
Maybe it is time to get a new vehicle! Now our car is stuck part way down the driveway. I only hope no one tries to come up the driveway and then slides into our car.

Oh no, sorry about the car, Carla. When is the weather supposed to start warming up? How's your headache?
Donna, hope you are recovering well.
Savory breakfast ideas... I like to nuke a sweet potato then throw in a bowl with blueberries and some fresh steamed broccoli or maybe a bag of frozen mixed steamed veggies. Savory oats are a fun change of pace. There are lots of variations if you do a quick search. If I have more time I'll make a tofu scramble and I've been looking at chickpea flour omelet recipes lately that I want to try.
Plan for today...
B - sweet potato, blueberries, broccoli, a brazil nut and 2 walnut halves
L - forks over knives entree (keep some in the office freezer for days I don't have lunch to pack)
D - big ol' salad with spring mix, leftover "fried" potato and roasted mini peppers, cucumber, pickled onion - made some shane & simple vinaigrette last night so I'm set for salad dressing for a few days
S - apple if I get hungry in the afternoon

Thanks for the ideas, Mihani. I have a recipe somewhere for an indian dish I used to make for breakfast that used chickpea flour for the base. I'll have to look for that. I have not being feeling the yams lately but I do think I'll pick up some potatoes and try nuking those for breakfast with veggies & maybe with a dollop of cashew yogurt.
I opted out of next week's plantage meals. We did a half order to cover Joe and I'm going to try some prewashed greens, fresh veggies and baked tofu for my dinners. I'll see how that goes. Maybe I'll alternate weeks.
Joe dug down to the driveway in spots until he could get enough traction and speed to get out of the driveway. He managed to run all the errands we needed done but now the car is stuck at the bottom. Progress!
I don't think we're going to dip below freezing anymore and the sun is shining so I think we'll be free & clear this weekend.
Still dealing with bad headaches, I will if my week of salad next week helps.0 -
Do you have the car out yet, Carla? Sure hope your headaches let up.
I listened to Jeff Novick's talk about calorie density and the 50/50 plate the other day. I get bored and distracted watching youtube videos so I've just been listening in the car driving to work and back. Very interesting and gave me some new ideas for staying on track. I know the weight loss is going to slow down, I lost 9 really quickly, and I am figuring I'll be lucky if it doesn't stop completely for a while. I'm not that far from my goal weight and we all know it gets harder the closer you get.
Picked up some chickpea flour and hope to get to try one of these "omelet" ideas soon.

The car is out, but not in. I drive our 4wd side by side down to the car and then Joe runs errands and calls me when he's ready for me to drive down and pick him up. The fields are still white but I'm starting to see patches of green and there's rain in the forecast this weekend.
Let me know if you land on a good chickpea flour omelet. We have been having Just Egg folded which is super easy & works great but it is pricey (maybe not as pricey as real eggs right now!). I ordered beans to make my own Just Egg but haven't tried the recipe out yet.
Today I'm working on warping the big floor loom for a rag rug.
Are you in the office all weekend, Mihani?
Donna, I hope you're starting to feel better! Are you making plans for Alaska yet?0 -
I've never tried the Just Egg, Carla. It looks like it has oil though, and I'm being very strict about that again. I want to bring down my cholesterol before the doc makes me go on another medication. Already on one for my blood pressure, and I hope to get off that eventually because it's a very small dose to prevent spikes which are mostly stress-induced. I have an order to get blood drawn and will go do that this week. Fingers crossed for improvement in the cholesterol.
I am still casually looking at one-story condos but finding one that's affordable in the area I want is not going to be easy. Just need to keep looking. An over 55 community is a possibility and there are several options but some of them are dang pricey. I think they have a different definition of "affordable living" than I do.
Waiting for laundry to get dry then up to my desk. And magically, the chime just went off on the dryer as I typed that!
B - oats with blueberries, banana, chia/flax, cinnamon
L - starch blaster (this one is kidney beans, pigeon peas, barley, wild rice, loads of veggies... turned out really well)
D - salad - been keeping those simple just box lettuce, grape tomatoes, a mini cucumber, pickled onions, sunflower seeds, shane & simple vinaigrette)

Sorry. Just felt lousy lately. Headaches and dizziness. Not much appetite but not walking either. Dogs are very clingy and protective… saw my surgeon last week. Normal post op side effects of surgery on inner ear. Warning. Graphic photos of bunny and lamb attack. Plus one of little Miss Perfect, Cleo.0

Sorry to hear you've been feeling lousy, Bisky. Did the doc give you any idea how long these effects might last? I know they can't really say because recovery time is different for each individual but they usually have a general idea. Cute pup pics.
I made a potato soup last night that is so good. Just gold potatoes, onion, celery, garlic, paprika, rosemary, coriander, pepper, veggie broth. Having that for lunches the first part of the week instead of the starch blaster.
Plan for the day:
B - sweet potato, steamed broccoli, blueberries, two walnut halves, a brazil nut
L - potato soup, an apple
D - salad

Oh that soup sounds delicious! Did you boil or roast potatoes first? We are making a red lentil sweet potato soup today.0

Valentine card making party before surgery. I am behind in orders as I get dizzy looking down.

Bisky, I just threw everything in the instant pot and let it cook. I'm a big fan of the instant pot now. Use it a couple times a week to make big batches of soup or starch blaster. Saves so much time and mental energy not thinking about what to make anymore, and I'm wasting a lot less food.
Plan for today same as yesterday. Plus I will get in some strength exercises tonight.

graphic photos of lamb and bunny attack lol So adorable. I hope you are feeling much better soon donna. It looks like a fun card session. Are those gals regulars for card making?
I'm glad you got over your fear of the IP, Mihani. They are so handy and perfect for someone as busy as yourself. Speaking of, I'm going to soak some garbanzo beans. I have been having a hankering for tuno salad.
Although we did a half order at plantage this week, I counted out the meals and we're going to have enough for the whole week anyway since things got out of sync with the snow. So next week I will do my salad week.
I've been working on warping my floor loom for a rag rug. The warping part always bothers my neck and shoulders so I'm doing a little bit of threading each day along with getting the rag strips prepared and reorganizing my craft room so that all of the weaving related stuff is in easy to reach places. The great shuffle. It happens every time I change my hobby of focus.
Here's the warping in progress

I can’t wait to see your rug! Please keep posting progress pics. Yes, Most of them were regulars for card making. One newbie who enjoyed it.
Mihani, Brooks bought me an instant pot and I am terrified of it ( my excuse). So I find recipes and he turns it on. Yesterday big bag of black beans, 1/2 can chipotle and vegetable better than bouillon. Today I am making black bean soup.
I have one week before guests from Italy arrive. Then day after family arrives and Feb. 28th is Brooks retirement ceremony. We made a lot of progress. An electrician hid the cord to wall mounted TV, got 50 gallon aquarium up and running so we can consolidate 2 other aquariums soon. Fresh mulch applied. Then the day before I am getting a few plants for pots.
Have been avoiding scales last 2 weeks as I was up 4-5 lbs at preop appointment. Happy to see I am back down those 5 lbs. going back to protein drink breakfast, soup or salad for lunch and soup or salad for dinner now that I can chew again. I wasn’t allowed to chew and my jaw was painful on the side the implant was put in. My black eye from the facial monitor is almost gone. Have been drinking a lot of different teas in this cold weather. Today it is 24*. Next week high is 80’s. We brought in all my outdoor plants ( ferns, philodendron, Monsteras and palms) that were in pots. My kitchen looks like a jungle.
Plan to organize a couple of closets and guest bathroom and make soup. Book club later.

I would love to remodel this fireplace. This is after and before of the cord that was driving me crazy.

Can't wait to see the rugs you create, Carla.
You and Brooks sure do stay busy, Bisky! I had a TV installed over my fireplace but I didn't want to go the expense and mess of cutting into the wall to put in an outlet because the nearest line was a little ways away. The guy did a really nice job of securing the cord so you really only see one little line coming down to the top of the mantel, and he used a white extension cord and painted it the same as the wall so you don't even notice. Glad to hear you are feeling a bit better.
It is so freaking cold here. I hate this weather and can't wait for spring!
Still eating my potato soup. So good on these cold days. Speaking of which, off to eat!

I made the black bean Buano Serra soup (vegan) with the chipotle and black beans made in instant pot. So delicious! and warming. Drove for the first time this am…guess where? Not swimming because I can’t swim or play pickle ball yet. To an estate sale! Found 8 cute small drinking glasses, French for $20.00. We have 4 glasses we use regularly but with entertaining 7 people not enough. Also found a new looking Nespresso brand frother for $10.00. And a pretty painting of Texas landscape with bluebells and cardinals!
It is cold here too. 25* when I went out this am. Next week will be in 80’s. Did I mention we had solar panels installed?0 -

I really like that painting, Bisky. By the way, I was terrified of the instant pot for a long while. I got it probably 4 years ago and it just sat around gathering dust. I finally decided I was going to learn to use it and get over my fear. I admit the first few times I was nervous now it's just another kitchen appliance.
It has been kind of a lousy week at work. I am glad tomorrow is Friday. I'm going out with my friends tomorrow after work and working from home Saturday then visiting with family. Sunday I'll go to the office. I'm just really getting tired of working 7 days a week. It never gets better, and in fact gets worse.
Promising myself that I will start strength training again this weekend and do it at least 2 and hopefully 3 times per week. Can't keep putting it off, and I enjoy it so I don't know why I'm having so much trouble getting motivated.
