KylieGretasMom's mom requested a clothing thread. I'm not a big clothing person but I can sew and I can type so we can do this.
I am currently 3x in tops. 2x are too tight. But I'm more into comfort at the moment than looking good. so most of my cloths are 5-6x.
Depending on the pants I go from 1x to 3x. I don't like fabric pulling on my skin so I don't wear jeans and I haven't been wearing pants that are actually a size in quite a while.
I would recommend getting a soft tape measure. You can get them in the craft/sewing section of the store. You will need this if you are ordering online so you can compare the size charts to what your body actually is.
I am not a believer that everything looks good on every body. But I do believe that there is a style that works for the body you have.
I've bought most of my shirts from Torrid. I generally shop the sales section. Most of my short/pants have been gifted from my mom. All of them use elastic. Some of them have string as a back up. I haven't lost enough weight to need to change anything yet.
I do need to wear at least mid thigh shorts has I have inner thigh fat pockets that would rub together otherwise.
I look forward to talking cloths with you. How you dress affects how you feel. I will definitely need to change from this sloppy tent comfortable 'style' I have.

Thank you! I mostly wear jeans and sweaters or button ups to work. I’m a 3x with lots of clothes. I’m 5’4. Are you in the US?
I’m wondering if the best strategy for when I’m 1x is to get rid of everything that’s too big and just buy a small capsule wardrobe or is it better to piecemeal it? It sounds like a lot of work to keep trying to find things one at a time.
I know everyone is different but how often do plus size women shrink out of their clothes? I will be so happy to return to 2X.
I’m thinking Old Navy might be the best bet for price, quality, and style.
Any tips would be super.

Yes. I'm in the US, upper state SC.
The great thing about jeans is that you can use a belt. Sweaters can be worn big and button ups can be tucked in. For those items, it is a matter of how the individual piece looks and how put together you need to be for work.
When I lost weight back in 2008, I had sewing machine and made most of my clothes. I did buy a couple of pants and shirts that fit mid way through the weight loss. Can you believe that I got 'thin' shamed for walking into a lane bryant at a size 14? Then I went down to a 8/9 before losing my mind and gaining the weight back.
I wish I still had all the material I collected back then. My family got rid of it so I will have to completely replace my wardrobe instead of making clothes that I can alter.
I think the first advice I have is that you just have to cover your private parts. That is the bare minimum. So when you don't have to go to work or dress to impress, wear your old clothes. For pants with belt loops, you can just use a belt. You can even use a belt on oversized shirts. For pants with just elastic, you can use safety pins to gather them and then use a shirt to hide the top of the pants.
The second is that you don't need a huge wardrobe. If you buy two pairs of black slacks when your pants look too awful for work, no one will know that you only have two pair. No one remembers your pants anyway. You will just need 5 shirts for the work week and that can get you though until the next time you need to shrink wrap your body.
I personally don't have the money to go in between. I will likely use the safety pin method to keep my pants around my butt instead of my ankles. But my mom also said I could have her old clothes when I get down to 14/16 size.I maybe 52 years old but I still don't wanna dress like my mother.
Leggings are also another option. I have quite a few. I use them when I need to dress nicer. Since most of my shirts are over sized anyway it works. I would recommend gaucho or palazzo pants. They can be from dressy to casual, sometimes both. But they have more fabric at the bottom, so that outline isn't going to change as you lose weight. The a line silhouette works for most people.
Also think about thrifting your clothes. Most cities have a goodwill.0 -
I love the look of these pants.0 -
pajama/yoga pants. so stretchy. The band at the top breaks the silhouette. The stretchy material gives a bit of mid section support. Paired with a solid color top and i think it would look as an all day wear. then again I wear obvious pajama bottoms out. I would like to be more put together after losing weight.

So, I work from home and video conference frequently. I am definitely a comfort over style kind of girl. I live in leggings that look like dress pants. In the winter sweaters are a staple as well. Both leggings and sweaters are forgiving in size. If they start to fall off me, I will probably get something capsule stuff to make it through till I reach my goal.0

I think i have age dismorphia. I'm not trying to be funny about body dismorphia. I have a tinge of that. I don't think i can relate my size to other people. Or i'm just someone unlucky (or not) to weigh more than people whom I believe to be bigger than me.
However I'm nearly 52. I remember what my grandmother was like at 52 and I'm nothing like that. The reason I bring this up is that I've posted two pants. Pants are easy. They aren't as 'age' sensitive. I just wonder if i am too 'young' in what I think is cute. Anyway. It's not like I have a high chance of buying anything posted so here it goes. I don't like sleeves. but I think this sweater is very pretty.

That sweater is beautiful @totameafox! And I get what you mean about what we wear/how we look compared to our grandparents. I am 56, sitting here in a pair of jeans and a thermal shirt/fleece vest. I dont think I ever saw my grandma in jeans!!
I think everyone should wear what makes them feel comfortable, confident and beautiful. Without judgment.0 -
I broke out the tape measure and compared to the size chart. I'm in the 2x range but on the high end. I think it would be cool to have this shirt with the starting weight and weekly numbers. But as cool as it would be. I'm not going to spend 20 bucks to write on a shirt.0 -
I was looking at shorts that looked more like skirts. They are a bit more flattering for thicker figures plus it would eliminate the chafing of the inner thighs. I've lost enough weight that i know those inner fat pockets will deflate but not go away. I found a golfing short/skirt combo that I flagged for myself later.

This shirt has a forgiving silhouette. I think it's pretty enough to be dressy yet comfortable enough to be casual.

Ok so I have no filter. I also have fat inner thighs. so I like my undies more on the line of shorts. I like the little lace at the leg of these.
Just need to lose 76lbs to get my big butt into them... totally doable0 -
I think to keep outgrown clothes awhile, they later can be used to layer in cole weather, for jobs like painting/clothes would get stained, for work in a garden, later for rags or patchwork quilts, who knows. Can always dispose later.
I like to shop out of season clearance to pick up staples... another pair pants or top. That season will roll around soon.
I do kind of switch color/themes by season but i live in a moderate area where most clothing works year round except a few weeks of extra hot or cold in summer or winter.0
