Week 7! Saturday, February 22, through Friday, February 28!

This week’s challenge officially kicks off on Saturday morning, February 22. Before that time, Exercise “Non-Scale-Victory,” Take Time To Breathe, and Healthy Habit Focus will not count!

😀This posting is for information only. PLEASE POST YOUR RESULTS ON YOUR CHALLENGE TEAM PAGE. Each team has a similar ‘set-up,’ yet each has its own ‘look & feel.’ Your team’s leaders will answer all questions. Another good source of information will be from your fellow teammates on your team’s discussion board.

RECAP: 2025 Winter: Race To A “Bright, Shiny New YOU!
🏁 Race 🏁
Once again, it's a foot race! Dust off your boots, skis, snowshoes, and any other shoes you use to move and participate in fun winter activities that you enjoy. Get ready to help your team reach the Winter Finish Line! The winter ribbon is made of snow, so be sure to dress warm! Each team has a goal of 6,000 minutes and a "Ribbon to Break."

Exercise to ‘break the ribbon’ before the end of the week as your team crosses the finish line. One minute of exercise = one minute closer to the goal. 120 minutes maximum per challenger per day will be counted toward your team's goal).

Healthy Habit 1: Visions of Conquering the Number on the Scale: “Non-Scale-VICTORY”

I’ve never paid much attention to NSVs until I knew I would be writing this challenge. When I stepped on the scale on January 11, Day 1 of this challenge, I realized I had my first NSV of this winter. My starting weight was under 200 pounds for the first time in many years. Ok, perhaps this one is a scale victory, too, but the shock and feeling of accomplishment was definitely not because of the number itself but because I hadn’t been focused on my weight and what was happening on the scale since the end of the Fall Challenge. Getting to that place was, for me, a Non-Scale Victory!

My second NSV came when my Mom was recently hospitalized. When I stopped for a coffee, the handsome younger barista asked if I was visiting my husband. We talked briefly, and when my macchiato was ready, he came out from behind the counter and handed it to me. He wished me a nice day and said he hoped to see me under better circumstances. It made me feel like maybe I didn’t look as bad as I thought. I received the compliment gracefully instead of trying to explain my haggard appearance. Even if he was simply being nice to an old lady, he helped to boost my confidence, which is something I haven't felt for a long time. (the gif below expresses how I felt.)

Searching for a definition of “Non-Scale Victory” resulted in finding out it isn’t in any dictionary. Turning to Wikipedia was no different. “The page "Non-scale victory" does not exist.”

I did get this from Duck Assist: DuckAssist BETA
A non-scale victory (NSV) is an achievement or improvement in health and well-being that is not measured by weight on a scale, such as increased energy, better sleep, or improved mood. These victories help individuals recognize progress in their health journey beyond just weight loss.

This is what MFP has to say: Staff Note: NSV, or Non-Scale Victory, is a dieting and weight loss term for noticing your weight loss success off the scale. This includes smaller clothing sizes, measurements, compliments, fitness success, steps, login days, new abilities, health success, etc.

Memes, blogs, hundreds of articles, and videos list examples of non-scale victories, but no official definition exists.

So, for the purpose of this challenge, my definition is Anything That Gives You A Sense of Accomplishment! Any new attempt at something you couldn’t do yesterday or attempting something you’ve never tried before! Trying something new is an accomplishment, even if the result isn’t what you aimed for. It doesn’t necessarily have to be related to your weight itself, but anything relevant to making the changes you want to make toward reaching your goals. If you feel good about something you've accomplished, it’s a Non-Scale-Victory!

There are very definite NSVs that can be measured by the numbers. The lab results from your regular check-ups and tracking your measurements as we have begun doing in the 5% Challenge. The size or fit of your clothes is a noticeable difference.

Are you noticing physical changes, such as increased energy, endurance, stamina, and strength? Can you open that jar that you couldn’t open a few days ago, walk further, or take the stairs instead of the elevator?

Mental and emotional changes become apparent if we look for them. Some changes happen so gradually that they go unnoticed. Are you thinking more clearly? Are your moods less changeable? Are you dealing with stressors with a more optimistic attitude?

If you need more ideas about NSVs, or if you need some inspiration or motivation for your day, I encourage you to visit the NSV Category on MFP and read the accounts of other people’s Non-Scale Victories. I promise it will be a valuable use of your time.

ATT: Please share your NSVs in your team's chat. There will also be a Discussion Topic on the Community Team page, where I hope you will share your NSVs so that all Challenge members can support each other. Leaders, please encourage your members to share their NSVs on the discussion topic on the Community Team page.

Healthy Habits #1 Summary: Focus on positive accomplishments apart from the scale! Find your Non-Scale-Victory daily. 1 NSV = 10 points.

Exercise Summary: Each minute you exercise moves your team closer to “Break The Ribbon” and reaching your team’s goal of 6,000 minutes! Remember, it’s 120 minutes max to count. You may choose to do more exercise, but what is counted for the challenge is maxed at 120 minutes.

Healthy Habits Summary:
1: NSV: 10
2: Take time to breathe:10
3: Healthy Habit Focus:10

Your post should look something like this:

Saturday (Please always note the day/days you are posting for)
Exercise: 120
NSV: shared on discussion: 10
Breathe: 10
Healthy Habit Focus: 10

Important Notice: If your 8-week focus happens to be the same as a weekly habit, you get to claim points in both places!

NOTE: Do the best that you can. We are inclusive of all but realize that not everyone can participate fully in everything because of health/dietary restrictions and/or physical restrictions. If there is an exceptional circumstance, let your team leader know. They can reach out to the OAL team, and perhaps together, we can come up with **suggestions** for an alternative.

    WEEK 7 LTGL NSV:
My wrist is healing slowly and am still wearing a splint. I can now type with both hands without pain! I can walk further than I could the first week of surgery.
When I first started my journey, I could only walk about 10 minutes. I have increased that up to 60 on a good day when my knees are good.
Those are just a couple of mine.

Nsv. When the nurse informed me to use the call bell she doesn't want me to go to the desk. I didn't rip off her head I stayed calm. But I thought wow karma is going to get you!
