So the month isn't completely over. But I'll be going on vacation and getting on a plane this afternoon. So I'll update now and not sure when I'll be back. Maybe late next week.

So April went OK. Weight maintained, which I am pleased with because we had several work events that meant choices not as great as normal. And beer/wine.

I hit all my Garmin challenges. Completed them all before the end of the month, so super happy about that. I have a personal goal to get 330,000 to 366,000 steps and won't know where I landed until end of day.

I didn't get as far on the C25k as I had hoped. My back caused me to stop for the month because I wanted to make sure I was ok for vacation. So I'll start again when I get back.

I'll be setting all my May goals while traveling today. Definitely will have Garmin challenges in it, 11,000 steps a day but not sure if I'll try to tackle more.

Hoping to lose the last pound to put me into maintenance.

Hope everyone has a great week!!

congratulations Meg! Only one pound to go, that’s wonderful. I hope you have an amazing vacation. 😊

I can't wait to hear about your vacation (should you decide to share). Mine was more of the food variety. Cake, ice cream, lasagna smothered in cheese… Got my hair dyed and cut. Treated myself to a pedi and mani.. typing is a bit clumsy. I was hoping to be able to go a park for mother's day but it's scheduled to rain. It's hard to remember that I used to be a fairly active person.

Thanks all for the encouragement and support.

@totameafox we had a great recharging vacation. We flew into Vegas (lived south of there for 11 years.) Spent a day on Fremont, hanging out by the pool. Then went to a friend's cabin in Northern Nevada. Lots of hikes which were great. But I am not used to that elevation anymore. So they were slow with several breathing and water breaks. LOL. Too much great food and beverages. It has taken me until 56 to really enjoy and crave being this active.

So, my goals for May are 11k steps daily. And several Garmin challenges - 300k steps, 20 activities of 20 minutes, walk 30 miles and do a 3 mile walk memorial day weekend.

Thought I'd update at the half way point for the month.

Well, my back has decided to be a brat again. So no added hikes/walks or exercise until it heals. Went to the chiropractor yesterday so hopefully over the weekend it'll stop hurting. I do have an event for work tomorrow that'll have me on my feet all day, so...

Weight is up about a pound. Not sure if it is from vacation, water retention, less than optimal food/beverage choices, etc. So I'll buckle down for the last couple of weeks and hopefully get where the month started.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Thanks @yakkystuff . It is getting there. Some easy movement and steps. Hoping I'll be 100% for the weekend. But will not be picking up my great nephews. They are two and a half and four. So they can climb on my lap to read. But no carrying this time!

How is your steps goal for the month going? I am thinking of making a steps goal for myself for the summer.

Hi @Catlady27787. My steps challenge is going pretty well. I injured my back a bit so slowed dien while I was healing. But back to my goal. I need to get about 10,000 a day for tge rest of the month to hit my high mark. Chasing toddlers this weekend should help.

@megd44 Makes sense that you had to slow down a bit after an injury. I hope you are fully healed now! Chasing toddlers sounds fun and like a good way to reach your step goal!

Hope you had fun with the great nephews Meg. Those are such lovely ages and they grow so quick! Hope your back is easing too.

@pamelaory thank you so much! I tend to have a pretty positive personality in general. The start of this year was tough for me with recovering from an accident, COVID and federal policy changes impacting my work (non-profit and climate change is one of the things we work on.) I made the decision in February after being angry, stressed and drinking too much to focus on what I can control. And on my future health. It has helped a lot. You inspire me with your honesty and the way you just keep pushing!

I had a great time with the little guys @Catlady27787 and @MinnieIndigo! Just being present with them is such a joy. And full body toddler hugs are THE BEST, they make everything in the world right (and this is coming from a child free by choice person/couple.)

Ok, so yesterday was my weigh/measure day. Still hanging about a pound from my goal weight. Measurements slightly down. Considering vacation and everything else, I can live with that. But when people say the last couple pounds take forever to come off, they aren't kidding!!

Looking at everything coming at me in the next six weeks, I am going to focus my goal this month with intentional movement. I'll track my food, but not going to worry about a deficit. Just not going over what I am expending. All the local fruits and vegetables are starting to pop here, so that will make things easier.

I joined a challenge to get 4 million steps this year. So that means I should be at 2 million by the end of June to be on track. So, my daily step goal to hit that will be 12,000. I plan on doing several Garmin challenges to support, getting a 2 mile walk/hike, preferably outdoors, 6 days a week and do 2 days weekly of strength training.

Thank you @pamelaory! If this 56 year old, former smoker (for like 37 years!) non-exercising woman can get there, you will too. I am in a completely different place than I was one year ago. Small steps, making choices for health, not a look, and choices that are sustainable. I have come to really love my morning outside walks. Will be happy when the wildfire smoke is gone so I can get back outside there!

I’m turning 55 this year and am a former smoker as well. 😊. I’ll just keep on with my baby steps… thanks Meg!

Thanks @Catlady27787 for checking in. @pamelaory quitting was so freeing but hard. I bribed myself to make it stick!!

Doing ok at the halfway point of the month. Definitely on track to hit the 2 million steps by end of June. Really enjoying the outdoor walks. I have seen some amazing wildlife ( like a fox!) early. And it's just calm and peaceful. Not as great on the strength training. Getting one good session in weekly so need to get that one do e fir sure.

And still waiting for summer in northwestern lower Michigan ☹️ would really like some warmer temps.

@Catlady27787 it breaks down to 11,000 daily. So if you start hitting your goals, you'll be close in 12 months!

Whoa. That's awesome!!! I gotta try to do this too!

I realized yesterday how much I look forward to and love my outdoor big walks. Going to be prioritizing those moving forward for as long as I can. Living in northwestern lower Michigan means it can be challenging to virtually impossible in the winter months. That also means I may alter my strength goals in the future.

Hard to believe the month is almost over. With the exception of the strength training, it has been a good month with steps, movement and knocking off the Garmin challenges.

Outdoor walls are amazing. I bet you live in a gorgeous state! Do you have any specific goals for July?

Michigan is beautiful, especially where we are. Lots of state/County parks, Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore is less than 3 miles from my house, lots of protected land from conservancies. Awesome trails for walking, hiking, running, skiing. And great beaches. Very grateful to be in this area for sure.

Great question about July goals @Catlady27787!! Trying to figure that out today. I will definitely do a few Garmin challenges but not sure what else. This is the season for summer visitors and all my siblings coming home for the end of July and beginning of August. Trying to figure out how I balance that with my goals without putting crazy stress on myself but still pushing forward. I'll let you know as soon as I figure it out.

I went on a short hike with my son who was visiting and thought of you Meg. 😊. It was only a little shy of 2 miles but it felt great! I made a commitment to return to the trail and go a bit farther each time until I see where it leads.

That is great @pamelaory!! Trails are such adventures. It has been crazy humid here so about 50% of my exercise has been inside. I'll get lots of outside over the weekend with several siblings, nieces and greats.

June ended fairly strong for me. Hit my movement goals but need to get better overall with strength exercises. Or more realistic about doing them in the summer when I want to be outside. Though if you count planting gardens, moving soil and building decks I am right there.

Weight is the same as May with a trend of barely down. Exactly what I expected. Have lost a few inches. With the busy summer, am hoping to maintain. And keep moving. Will set my goals up in a July discussion thread.

Hope everyone has a great summer!
