    Sunday CI ~ !

Today was a fruit day - kiwi, apricot, banana, macoun apple. And Brazil nuts. No yogurt or fermented food today 🤷‍♀️. Some veggies in my sesame chicken leak cuisine, at dinner.

I was feeling like something fermented! Veggies and mushrooms and a little cheese and blue corn chips! 🤪

@mkksemail Do you eat the skin on the kiwi? I always peel mine. I didn’t think it was edible?

Yup, it's edible. And yup, I eat it :). I wash first, ofc.

    WTG Fermented Foods !!

    From Google Generative AI ~

Yes, it is generally safe and even recommended to eat kiwi skin. Kiwi skin is a good source of fiber, which can aid digestion and contribute to a healthy gut. It also contains vitamins and antioxidants. Here's a more detailed look:

    • Fiber Boost:Kiwi skin significantly increases the fiber content of the fruit. Eating the skin can increase fiber by almost half, according to USA Today
    • Nutrient Rich:Kiwi skin is a good source of folate, vitamin C, and vitamin E, all of which contribute to overall health and well-being.
    • Antioxidant Powerhouse:Kiwis, including the skin, are rich in antioxidants, which help protect the body against damage from free radicals.
    • Digestive Health:The high fiber content in kiwi skin can help promote healthy digestion and prevent constipation.
    • Heart Health:Some research suggests that kiwis can also support heart health, potentially reducing the risk of stroke and coronary disease.
    • Potential Side Effects:While generally safe, some individuals may be allergic to kiwi, including the skin. Additionally, the skin contains oxalates, which can be a concern for those prone to kidney stones.
    • Tips for Eating Kiwi with the Skin:To make eating kiwi skin more palatable, you can lightly scrub the fuzz off the skin while washing, or consider gold kiwis, which tend to have less coarse hairs than green kiwis.

I had cottage cheese w/ organic black pepper, organic brazil nuts, a kiwifruit, and an apricot :).
I had a big lunch (hodgepodge of leftovers). So, light dinner. Or maybe heavy dinner-time-ish snack :p. I logged it as a snack, but it feels like dinner :)

Out to lunch for bbq yesterday - had a smoked turkey salad, it was delish!

Someone cabbaged my Tx toast, so made garlic bread for supper with my leftovers from night before.

lol! but what does 'cabbaged my Tx toast' mean, yakky?

    Friday ci ~

Last night dinner I had coleslaw (got my green!), sweet potato fries, and half a haddock reuben (on rye, ofc). Mustard for the fries and reuben. forgot to grab a pix 🤷‍♀️

    PXL_20250521_161037637.jpg

Breakfast today is a copy/paste of yesterday - olive oil-fried diced tomatoes & eggs, w/ bluttered blueberry english muffin. And protein tea.

Oh, and haha, I totally bought the Honey Pearl grapes b/c of the name. Paid a dollar more per lb, too. But they tasted just the same as … grapes. 🤷‍♀️ Snookered by the branding/marketing! They were good, don't get me wrong.

    Wed dinner ~

    PXL_20250521_215542870.jpg

We went to dinner with my daughter and mother-in-law last night. We stopped at one place for drinks and apps, it was 'Weiner Wednesday' lol and my daughter really wanted to try it. 'Weiner Wednesday' is a twice a month fundraiser at a local cool … I don't know what you call it! heh I was going to say wine bar, but that's not right. . Half the profits from the weiner sales go towards a local charity. I had about a quarter of the 'Signore' , which is basically a bean salad-topped hot dog :p. And a "Swedish Pie", which was a rum cocktail.

https://www.vesselandvine.com/ They describe themselves as a '… retail store for the best in prepared & speciality foods, cheese & charcuterie, small-production wine, beer, & ciders with a strong sense of place, and all the cocktail supplies your heart could desire.During store hours we offer very casual counter service. A selection of wines, beers, ciders, and bottled cocktails are ready to be poured for you

    PXL_20250521_220818818.jpg

to enjoy at the bar or on the porch (weather permitting!). You can shop the shop for snacks to enjoy while you sip.
We hold regular wine tastings and host lots of fun community events.'

I can't recall what the charity was last night. But here's an announcement from one of the charity's that was featured during one of their pop-up Weiner Wednesdays last September:

    https://www.btlt.org/events/hot_dogs/

I didn't get a picture of the hotdog I shared with hubby, but they have a picture of a couple of them there. I did get a picture of my 'Swedish Pie'. Despite the 'pie' name, it wasn't a particularly sweet concoction.

    PXL_20250521_232812238.jpg

Anyway, due to the apps and drink before-hand, when we went to dinner, I looked for something that would be delicious, but not heavy. We went to another cool local spot, The Great Impasta, which proudly declares on their website, "We are proud to be Maine’s only 3 star certified Green restaurant. Environmentally-friendly practices are paramount in every aspect of our business. From reducing waste, cooking with energy efficient equipment and composting, we are focused on being a restaurant with minimal environmental impact.". Cool !

I had a small bread-plate-sized portion of my daughter's Beet Salad (fresh mixed greens, roasted beets, goat cheese
, and toasted nuts with honey balsamic dressing
), which was delicious. I forgot to snap a pic, tho. I chose an appetizer for my entree - Gamberi Aglio (shrimp sautéed with tomatoes in a roastedgarlic and herb olive oil white wine sauce) - also delicious !

    PXL_20250521_234920706.jpg

And I ordered a Spumoni for dessert (ice cream confection made with pistachio, cherry, vanilla and chocolate flavors drizzled with claret sauce), which we all shared. So, I got in some freg, including some green! and had delicious small plates that didn't bust the calorie budget. Win all around :D.

    Friday ci ~

Another copy/paste bfast :p. Olive-oil fried diced tomatoes, & eggs, blueberry english muffin, protein tea (not pictured).

I picked up some Romaine Hearts yesterday, (and more bananas), so I'll have some leafy greens with nuts & dried fruit sometime today. I took out some white chicken chili, that I made back in February, from the freezer for dinner. Nor'easter blew in yesterday, it's going to rain until Saturday.

Nor'easter is a fall/winter storm! Super weird that it's happening in late May. Winter storm, winter dinner! heh

    PXL_20250524_155441284.jpg

I had another copy/paste bfast. Whole wheat english muffins instead of blueberry. I tend to get boring, and put meals on repeat :p.

We're heading up north for a quick getaway tomorrow. We booked in for a Sail & Dine package at Inn at Ocean's Edge. Our nor'easter (man we've had a low pressure system going on since Thursday!) will clear out on Sunday, so the weather on Monday looks to be 10 degrees F warmer, and blue skies! Perfect for the 2.5 hr sunset schooner ride we've got reservations for.

I'll be back on Tuesday night, just in case I don't post again between now and then. (Probably will, but just in case :) ).

Assorted yummy Trader Joe's heels and end pieces (1/2 a Thin Sliced European Grains & Seeds, 1 end piece Soft Multigrain Rustico Bread, 1 full slice Organic Seeded Bread, all yum!)

  • yakkystuff

Picked up shrimp, spinach and bell peppers this week, considering trying something using the coconut milk I picked up last week to try (instead of regular milk.)
