At the end of the day, the weight loss is all about lifestyle. I have known folks who had the bariatric surgery, and 5 years later they were back where they started.

I just had my first fasting blood sugar below 100, it was 98. What is the range for fasting that we want to stay in?

I am on a glp1 med for my diabetes. They do not in and of themselves cause weight loss, not for me anyway. It does make me less hungry and I feel full faster after I eat. Intermittently, it has helped with food noise and cravings some. I think that is the biggest benefit and I wish it were more consistently present for me.

Congratulations! That is a great achievement.

About these Glp medicines. Do they directly affect blood sugar? Or do they only help you to feel full and lose weight? I have never understood whether they are only a tool to lose weight to help blood sugar or if they actually directly affect blood sugar.

it is my understanding that they mimic a hormone that tells your brain you are full and also works on other receptors throughout the body to have other effects. I feel like I understood it better when I first was considering it and did a bunch of reading on it. As I understand it though, if you were to continue to eat the same way, it would not change anything. Its effectiveness is in how it alters eating habits. I think.

Thanks @pamelaory for sharing. I am also on a glp-1 for diabetes (ozempic in my case), weight loss is a beneficial side effect for me. I am not sure how much of my glucose improvement and weight loss is directly from the Ozempic. I started it the day my doctor broke the diagnosis to me. In my case, I was traveling and out of state for a couple of years and I hadn't seen my doctor in that time. I didn't know how long I had the high A1C so I went all in to get it under control. I made a lot of lifestyle changes at the same time and had to go off Ozempic for a while since my insurance initially declined (my BMI was not considered obese and I hadn't tried any other meds, so I had to try metformin).

@ patriciafoley1 glp-1 do help manage blood sugar, that's why they have been used for type 2 diabetes for a while (Trulicity and Victoza are also glp-1 though a little different from Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro, etc). GLP-1 is involved in a few different systems. It improves insulin sensitivity, signals to the pancreas to release insulin after eating, and its interactions with the hormone glucogen reduces how much glucose is released into the bloodstream. My doctor and dietition said the slower digestion also helps regulate blood sugar. Cleveland Clinic has a fairly easy to understand section on it, it's been a while since I read the whole page though: https://my.clevelandclinic.org/health/treatments/13901-glp-1-agonists

I don't think it (or any medicine) is right for everyone and side effects are real for many people. After talking with my doctor, I decided to try it because it seemed right for my specific situation and mix of issues. I do wonder whether I would have had similar results with the lifestyle changes I made.

I would be weary of saying that the apple cider vinegar is what caused you to drop weight on the scale. You can't prove if it is causation or coincidence. I would also look for other things about your health journey to feel good about rather than getting frustrated over the number on the scale. We are always going to weigh something. There is no point in getting frustrated over it. Easy to say, hard to do I know. Yesterday I weighed 213.2 today 214.8. I'm still lower than last week. But the lower number sure felt better.

    You've got this.

Well, I don't know if acv capsules (apple cider vinegar) help or not. I just know I was in a plateau for weeks and I finally starting seeing the scale drop again. It could be coincidence or just the scale finally budging. But since they are cheap (36$ for 4 months) and supposed to be beneficial for weight loss and blood sugar I will finish what I have. I was happy to weigh in at 151.6 this am with a BS of 119. That's the lowest morning BS I have registered though I am sometimes 114 at night. (rarely). I am not that every morning, still sometimes in the 130s, 140s but mostly high 120s to 130s. So I have a long way to go.

I am hoping if I really get to an ideal weight (145 at the high end) and even lower to get rid of visceral fat, I will be normal again. If not, I guess i will have to see.

Since I started this diet on October 18 2024, at 196.6, I have lost, as of today, 45 pounds. That's a lot less to carry around!!! And I am almost in a size 10 jeans. ( I can button and zip them, but they are tight enough around the waist i will wait till i lose another 5 pounds to wear them. They fit fine, even loose, around thighs and hips).
