Hello! I’m on MJ 8 months now. The two side effects I experience are constipation. I take Metamucil daily and it helps a bit. The other is hair loss. I lost 23 lbs from July through October and have held steady since then. I fluctuate between 152 and 155. I’ve started working out 3x a week about a month ago for strength training. Any advice for the hair loss? I can’t swing the price of nutrofal right now. I do take 10,000 of Biotin daily. Thanks for any tips.

I noticed hair thinning during my weight loss and talked to my doctor about it. My doctor runs a family practice, and she also specializes in women's health and weight loss, so she always has expert information on weight loss for me as well as helpful tips and products she recommends. She also doesn't prescribe prescription remedies as the first option. For hair loss she not only suggested I increase my protein intake a bit (Note that I track my food and I was not deficient, but maybe I had a body that just needed a bit more protein than someone else needs) and she suggested I stop shampooing daily. I was using a low price shampoo and my habit was washing my hair every day and I was scrubbing my scalp. She also suggested I change to a shampoo bar and be much gentler on my scalp (not scrubbing). What she suggested was Lush Cosmetics Angel Hair Bar. Not sure if you have that in your area, but they do have an online store. I think her advice worked for me because with the added protein and shampoo changes I no longer check out my hair in the mirror daily fixated on those thin areas. Hair loss can be caused by other conditions, probably serious, so I hope you have a good doctor who will have a real conversation about what you need.

I’ve only been on MJ a couple of weeks, but have experienced hair loss for a long time. Multiple doctors said it was hormone and age related, and didn’t offer any advice. As to not washing every day, I do believe that helps, as well as being gentle to your scalp and not using tight buns or tight pony tails. Try not to get tangles that cause breakage. Those are things recommended by hairdressers, not doctors.

I was dealing with constipation before even getting on MJ. I asked my gastro doc about it and he said to take a maintenance dose of MiraLAX every day. I use the equate brand from Walmart and only need it a couple times a week. Since starting MJ this month, that has remained sufficient. A maintenance dose is a capful of powder, mixed in with any drink. If you stir it really good, you can’t tell it’s there. No taste and no grit. I highly recommend.
