Last year and this I have had three visits with a Registered Dietitian. My primary reason for consulting an expert was my health. I have coronary artery disease brought on by a number of factors; the primary culprit being a high level of a little-known genetically inherited lipid called Lipoprotein(a). (About 10 to 20% of the population have elevated levels). Consequently, my cardiologist is aggressively treating me with lipid-lowering drugs; however, there is nothing that can lower Lp (a), though several medications are in clinical trials. The dietitian helped me to formulate a sustainable plan to eat heart healthy, which has the added benefits of weight loss and better sleep.

I have not. But, I have considered it. To Al's point, I would guess that it's a lot like finding any other service provider - sometimes you have to go through a few to find the right one for you.

    Excellent question.
