Steady as she goes. And I'm relieved because it has been quite the week. Because of this my steps were down again. Several nights, I got on the TM very late and I was so tired that around 7 to 8K was all I could muster. Saturday was one of those days. The trip to the celebration in PA included about 4 hours in the car due to accidents and heavy traffic. We got home just in time to grab some yogurt and head out to an evening committment. I also did volunteer work on 3 days, went to the Americorp volunteers dinner one evening, chased around picking up and delivering medical records, and of course, made it to my colon surgeon appointment yesterday (more about that later).
But although my steps this week (9,681)were less than last week, my average kcals burned (1,673) were a little higher than last week. I just don't seem to be having much luck though reaching a 7-day burn average of 1,725. And with everything on my plate now, I don't think I'll be seeing that any time soon. Which leads me to the outcome of the appointment with the surgeon.
In a nutshell, he said that he agrees with my gastroenterologist that a section of colon needs to come out. He said when done to prevent recurring diverticulitis, the outcome is usually very good, and that when done in an emergency situation, the outcome is never as good. He explained that while most people have a gentle curve in their sigmoid colon, mine has a sharp curve (almost a right angle) and just after that curve, there is an area where the colon is narrow. He said he couldn't say if that's just the way I was born, or if this is a result of recurring diverticulitis, but it's causing problems and will continue to do so. And to my surprise (after waiting more than 3 months to schedule my lumpectomy), I am scheduled for surgery on June 30. Maybe it's time of year and people are not scheduling elective surgeries in early summer. So keep your fingers crossed for me. And today, I go for my first post-radiation mammogram, and I'm nervous about that for two reasons—(1) outcome, and (2) having them squeeze the dickens out of a breast that hurts anyway! But I'll survive.
Well, I guess I should get off the computer and get some things done. My good friend/former coworker's MIL passed away yesterday, so I want to send some food and paper products to her. I'd like to offer to pick up some relatives at the airport today, but I can't cancel the mammogram and it's pouring rain here today, so a trip to any of our three area airports would be gruesome and require adding extra time to the trip. And hubby's work is so busy, I would have to do that solo. I also want to send a Spoonful of Comfort package to my step-niece. Her daughter is hanging in there, but they know that it's just a matter of time.
Kelly, I hope you soon have some good news to share about a house. I think of you and send good vibes and positive energy your way every day.
Sheesh, I hope the trip to OR went well. I'm looking fowarding to hearing about it.
And Lois, omg—all the things you have on your calendar! Don't totally wear yourself out. But I'm glad to hear that your daughter is recovering well, and your story about the woman who helped you carry all those packages reminds me that there are still good people in this world.
Will check back later. 😊

Good morning ladies. And yes, t's been a crazy few weeks. Almost done.
Rhea's kindergarten graduation was adorable. And after a visit at Chuck E Cheese for pizza and games, she and I went back to her house and rested on the couch until her parents got home (she was tired from water day theday before and a later night the night before when the other grandparents arrived at her house to early morning school. She didn't want to go to Target or the mall, so we laid on the couch, watched her youtube shows and cuddled. I stayed for dinner to avoid rush hour traffic and got home about 7:30. Too late to wrap up my packing so I just went upstairs…lol I'm probably going to take a nap after work for an hour or two as we are leaving tonight about 930p. On Monday we may swing down to visit my daughter. Hubby goes in later on Tuesday and I have the day off so we can afford to come home later than normal. after this trip no other travel on the calendar until mid July and that one's questionable - it is the weekend of the official Disneyland park opening celebration, but it's also going to be blazing hot and humid. I have typically avoided going in July (actually try to avoid most of the summer). Next trip then would be end of August for Labor Day.
First world problems but I think I've shared we want to trade in our current limited Highlander for the Grand Highlander hybrid. After almost six months our desired color/trim package combo is finally going to be here in a couple of weeks. I've been researching the trade in value for current highlander (less than 10k miles in 2.5 yrs) and I'm not confident I'm going to get the value I desire and it's going to make the difference more than I wanted to spend…. I'm practical. To a point. If I do this, I should realistically give up the chef to cover the payment so I'm not pulling out of savings each month. So hubby and I are having that discussion on the way to/from Disneyland. It's nice to have, but it is expensive and a true luxury. We can also continue to maintain our DL habit - which is more important to both of us. Also my friend who helps with housekeeping is asking for an increase…so I need to adjust that number in my budget as well. I'm trying to decide if I want to clean or cook….one of them will have to be adjusted. First world problems - I know.
Sarah - I'm so glad you got on the schedule for your surgery. You will feel so much better after you recover. Good luck with the mammo. My daughter's boss sent the spoonful of comfort to her - it is truly an amazing service. The soups were delicious as were the rolls and the cookies (daughter only shared one with me…lol). Such a thoughtful gift. And yes, there are still some amazing people still out there.
Sheesh - hoping your trip was amazing.
Kelly - any update on housing?
OK. Have to jump back to work and finish packing during my lunch hour. check back later.

LW: 131.2
TW: 132.4Yikes! Over a pound up . . totally reflects the OR spree. My goal this week is to log food.
Sarah, surgery so soon is a shock, but if you're not having diverticulitis issues it sounds like you'll have a better outcome. I'm sorry you're having to go through this, and so soon after a lumpectomy and radiation treatments. But, although that's the case, I'm sure you'll be feeling so much better afterward with no more pain and infections. I think your stats are fine, and your weight is really good, so for now you can put that off until after recovery and I'm sure you'll do fine. Let us know how you like the new treadmill. I'm in awe of how you are keeping up your volunteer work, your walking, and all that you do for others. I did a volunteer stint here for the food bank one day, so I know how time consuming it is. I'm sending good thoughts to your grand niece too. I hope there isn't a lot of suffering for her.
Lois, you are crazy busy lady! And, having outings with grands is tiring, I can testify LOL. I'm glad your daughter is healing and recovering well. And, the new car sounds nice, especially because you do so much driving. That will be nice. Very cute DL merch! Enjoy your holiday this weekend.
Kelly, still sending house-finding thoughts your way. . and those fires are an absolute tragedy! We've had our share here and in California and other places. I think climate change is only going to make them more frequent, unfortunately. The housing market here is unbelievably crazy too. My poor daughter and SIL here are so anxious for a house of their own (they are leasing a house now) and the prices and mortgage rates are just impossibly high. At least Shawn's foot is better . . small blessings.
Hubby and I had a wonderful time in OR. We got to attend a regatta in Vancouver WA for our almost 16 yo granddaughter, and it was so fun! I didn't realize how many crews from all over were participating. It was huge. These were the semi-final Nationals, and her boat took best in OR! However, they were 2 seconds off of getting to Nationals in Florida. It was so fun to see her in action. We also got to see our almost 14 yo granddaughter in "Annie" . . she was one of the orphans and had a few lines. The production was really good. . the kids really belted out the songs with lots of confidence and good voice! I was surprised. Really fun to see. Also, took them shopping for their upcoming birthday gifts . . it's always better to do it that way than to guess what they might like. . teenage girls, hah! Hubby and I have been playing a lot of golf too. I don't know if you remember that I took a bunch of lessons over last winter at Golftec and bought a couple of new clubs. Last round, hubby beat me by only one stroke, so I think it was worth it, ha ha ha. We'll be seeing the kids and grands here for Memorial Day. I don't think we'll travel much through the summer, opting for golf and baseball games instead and avoiding crowds. Our next trip is in September.
Enjoy Memorial Day weekend ladies. However, I'll be trying to keep within calorie limits.

Well, we're quickly shifting into Memorial Day weekend. I am sure a lot of people are taking Friday off to make it a 4-day weekend and so traffic on my way to a volunteer gig tonight will be heavy. And doesn't it seem like in summer or on holidays that people start driving a little crazy, too? On my way home from the mammogram yesterday, I had a person tailgate me sooo close, and I was going 10 mph over the speed limit. I knew better than to tap my brake because he surely would have rear-ended me, so I held my speed steady (couldn't speed up because of the car ahead of me) and he eventually found a hole and changed lanes. And then changed lanes, and then changed lanes—as far as I could see him. And this was rush hour and in the rain, dear god!!
Here's an update on the mammogram. The left breast, which is the one treated, was all clear! Yeah. They did see something in the right breast and did one of those special super smasher shots and then an ultrasound, and it was determined to be a cyst, which they'll watch. I have to go back in 6 months. So for now, that seems okay. And I got a call from the hospital this afternoon and set up my pre-op appointment for the colon surgery for June 17. In addition to the usual blood draws and EKG, I will talk to a nutritionist who will give me advice about diet both pre- and post-surgery. Here's something interesting. The woman who called me talked to me about two minutes and then said, "I know you! I remember you from when you came in for the pre-op for your breast surgery." And we chatted a few minutes and I told her about the issue I have with dehydration and my blood pressure dropping very low and she said they would be sure to work something out with the pre-surgery prep to minimize that risk. I was glad to hear that.
Sheesh, sounds like your trip to OR was a lot of fun. Rowing is something that has always fascinated me. And yes, teen age girls and gifts . . . And it sounds like the new clubs and the lessons are paying off. Next time, you'll have the better score! 😁
Lois, that's a lot of DL merchandise! Looks like you're set for birthdays for the rest of the year! And yes, cars are super-expensive now, and I'm practical, too. We have decided to drive our two Lexus SUVs until they die. They give us good service and since we seldom have more than two people in the car, they do just fine. Around here, car insurance is also very expensive so we'd have to factor that in above the actual cost of the car. I know you'll make the decision that is best for you.
Missing Kelly, but know she has her hands full. And that reminds me that I want to see if I can find current info on the fires in Manitoba.
And Sheesh, you are right. Volunteer work can be draining. But I get so much back from doing it. With more than 70,000 government employees in Montgomery County and tens of thousands of contractors, we now have a lot of people who are out of work through no fault of their own, and need is skyrocketing. One thing I dread about the post-surgery period, is not being able to do a lot of things.
And regarding the TM, Dolvet and I are getting along okay. I still don't know how to use half of the functions, but he's quiet and I think the walk is smoother than on my old one. Last night I set it at 3.3 mph and it felt more like 2.8 on the old one. And with this Nor'easter bringing rain down as far as the DMV, it has been a life saver this week.
Hope everyone has a safe and enjoyable weekend.0
