June challenges

We started off strong at the beginning of May. Anyone interested in keeping going with challenges together in June?
My three main goals are:
- 12,000 steps daily (to get back on track with the 4 million steps in 2025 group I joined in January. )
- Walk/hike 2 miles daily, preferably outside.
- 2 days of strength training weekly.
Happy June to all!!

Top line for me is not eat extras from freebies, yummies, spontaneous splurges - eat for real needs, stop at that, eat more when body needs more.
Lot of sick day extra soups today, blew salt targets.

Love that @yakkystuff!! Those freebies and spontaneous parts are so hard! Good luck...and your turkey dumplings looked so yummy!!

Jun2, already! Still sick day food adjustments. Was thinking back to childhood sickday foods - 7up, toast, chicken noodle soups, Crackers! Trying to adjust/keep regular plan approach - made a veggie quinoa broth soup and added meat, no noodles or crackers, so doing ok. It's soothing, and hot tea.
How's the steps & walking go? @megd44
I was surprised how good it feels after weights. I like bands too.

Those sick foods were pretty classic, we had ginger ale, specifically Vernors which is a Michigan brand. Still have it in out house in case it is needed. Hope you start feeling better soon @yakkystuff
Steps going well so far. Today is a rest day, so we'll see how many I get. But tomorrow will be a super long day with an evening work event. So they'll probably balance out.

Nice goals! I'm tempted to set a step goal again soon, but for June my goals will be track food every day, and strength training (minimum 10 minutes) most days. Little and often seems to be working best for me, if I only have to do 10 minutes I'm less likely to make excuses!
I'm doing well with food tracking. As for strength I did 25 minutes yesterday, nothing on the 1st and 2nd - although I did move a lot of heavy furniture on the 1st and decided that counts, so I'm doing OK.
I used to have Lucozade when I was sick. I don't know if you know it, it's a fizzy orange drink with loads of sugar. Funnily enough it's the only thing that helped with morning sickness back when I was pregnant too. My mum also used to give us butter and sugar for sore throats. It seems like sugar was a cure-all back then - oh dear! Your broth soup and tea sound much healthier @yakkystuff I hope you feel better soon.

@MinnieIndigo I think moving heavy furniture definitely counts as strength work. So should shopping at Costco or Sam's, IMO. Great job with your workout. Hope the tracking is going well too.
It is fun to look back at what our folks gave us when we were sick as kids. Some if it was spot on and some if it I wonder what they were thinking.
@yakkystuff I hope you are starting to feel better.
Hit my step goal so far 3 out of 4 days. A 12 hour work day and smoke from the Canadian fires got me yesterday. Still really bad air quality here but I got a 2 mile outdoor walk in. May not have been the best move....I should average 12k daily over the week as long as I keep it up for the next couple of days.

Smoke is tiny, so hope air clears soon! Better inside until it clears.
Tgif, right? Week flew by, hoping for extra rest to kick this. And quick run to pick up more soup & some oranges

The smoke has been tough, but appears to be virtually cleared for now. I know it is in the upper atmosphere super air quality warnings have gone.
@yakkystuff I hope you are feeling better and were able to get the rest you need. You are right about how fast the week flew.
Got my Garmin badge for walking a 5k this weekend. Not being able to get my outside walks in hurt my step count a little. I averaged 11,557 daily. If I can be consistent at 12,000 I'll be at my mid year goal by month end. And only got one strength training session in. Definitely room to improve this month.
So, need to have some better focus and a stronger plan when my work or the weather goes off plan.

@megd44 Glad the air cleared! Tickled you are on track for awesome steps goal.
Still remnants hanging on but energy much better again. It is so weird being sick when it's nice outside - I want to go out & play! Lol
Able to resume movement, yay!

Glad you are feeling better @yakkystuff. Smoke is back so indoor workouts again, but still on track.

Stinky! Hope it clears soon!
We had big fires a few years back. Sky was so odd. Tough on breathing - just nothing better than clean fresh air.

I didn't know where else to ask a random question so I hope it's okay if I just throw it into the June discussion goal board?
How often do you all weigh yourself? Once a day? Once a week? Randomly? I weigh in randomly but am debating coming up with a schedule.
I don't have a goal for June (life is too chaotic - posted an update on Bookphilosopher's thread) but I will participate in July's goal board! Okay actually now my goal for June is to come up with a goal for July lol
Great job on your steps everyone!

Hi @Catlady27787 great question. I try to weigh daily, but as I have gotten closer to goal weight, it is more like 5 days a week. I use Libra to track my trends. I didn't start out daily, got there about eight months ago. It is interesting to see the fluctuations and it helped me not fixate on a number as much as the trend down.
@yakkystuff I lived in Nevada for almost 11 years and the smell brings back all the memories of those fires. Will be glad when it is totally clear here.
Had a couple of super active days so making great progress on my monthly goals. Averaged 13,646 steps daily this week, so definitely made up for last week. Only 1 strength session, but spent Friday moving dirt, planting one garden, relocating Iris and building a deck with hubby. And then helped him move all the extra lumber for other projects yesterday. Going to count that, lol

Weighing - no wrong or right answer. I agree with Megd44's note that what she is doing helps her to not fixate on the number, but to look past it at the trend.
It can be a problem when the results on the scale drives emotional response... OR, importantly is used as a reason, excuse or justification to go party/eat to much or beat up on ourself for failing.
So, I am at the opposite approach (very rare.) I usually only get weighed at the doctors office regular visits, about every 3 to 6 months.
Why? To disconnect the power of results on the scale. A weight loss goal is very good, but it is a result. It does not tell you how to do it.
How? Instead, I focus on the how. The actions that will help me lose weight, be healthy, be fit and stronger - I set next step goals and action goals.
For example, to lose weight at 1/2 pound a week, I used the MFP calculator to tell me the calories a day. Calculating the calories I eat is an action goal - and when I consistently do that, week after week, most days.... then the results at the doc matches on the scale.
Next step goal, I started exercising by doing at least 1 online/utube type exercise video. I have been increasing minutes and intensity, and added walking after meals. All action goals, and I bump up to the next level/step as I am ready.
Periodic weigh-ins - I weighed in weekly for years, and temporarily changed to when I am at the doctors because it was driving emotions - and so I can focus on the doing instead of the end game. It had been a mindshift but after a bit, helped disconnect the emotional yank. I now switch between methods but I never want to feel powerless or compulsive or like I can't resist checking.
Fwiw, jmho & experience - explore and find what works for you. Experiment, adjust, try more - and as we grow & change, these things find what helps us or changes more too :)

@megd44 and @yakkystuff both of your answers show that it really is what works for you individually! thanks for sharing!
I need to get back on track with everything going on.

Forgot to say, I got a smartwatch so now I can keep track of my steps also! I'm aiming for 10 flights of stairs a day, and 10k steps a day.

Awesome goal!

Great goals @Catlady27787!! It is totally individual so play around with what works for you.

Does anyone here have a fitbit tracker? Can you friend people on there and see their steps? If anyone has the app, my username on there is the same as on here.
Sunday I walked 9,600 steps, Monday I walked 15,886 steps, and today I walked 13,315 steps. I am finding all this data quite fun.

@yakkystuff Your response on weigh ins was so well written and helpful that I had to come back this morning and reread it!
I have been using the libra app like @megd44 since May 2024. It smooths out the trend line of your weigh ins and tells you how much weight you've gained or lost every month. Last night I imported all the data from that app into my fitbit app since I have the watch now. The fitbit app tells you your average weight for every month and how much longer or higher it was than the month before. I feel like the fitbit app would be really cool for tracking maintaining your weight because it tells you the monthly average.
Wanted to come in this am and say hi to @yakkystuff @megd44 @pamelaory Hope you all are doing well this week and conquering your goals!

That is awesome @Catlady27787. I have a Garmin that tracks weight as well but like the way Libra presents the trend better. And absolutely agree that these watches can potentially help a lot in maintaining too.

I decided I'm going to keep using the libra app since I've been using it for a while now. But I'm also inputted (is that a word?) the data into the fitbit app so now I'm using both I guess. Loving the watch and the step counter!

Hard to believe only one more week in June!! I have done well on the steps the last few weeks, so think I'll make my overall goals for the month. Closed out one Garmin challenge and started another on Friday. Still need to be better with the strength training. Only getting one true session weekly.

Knocked out two more Garmin challenges this week. Step challenge, which was getting 300,000 steps this month. Closed that on Wednesday. Active June, which is record 20 activities of 20 minutes. Completed this morning. As long as the weather (and my back) cooperate, should end the month strong.

I kinda can't wait for July. Gotta love a fresh month!
@megd44 great job on closing your challenges

Officially hit 2 million steps for the year. Steps, awesome. Strength, not as awesome.
Also looking forward to and new month @Catlady27787.
