Today's Topic: What do you really want?
Most of us probably aren't simply looking to weigh "x" pounds. We likely associate whatever number we're aiming for with other things - - better health markers, less joint pain, being more attractive, greater mobility, etc. What are a couple things you really want/expect as a result of getting to or maintaining your magic number?

For me it’s almost all health-related. Reducing heart attack and stroke risk factors. I have a high visceral fat burden (read: a toxic waist) that is driving chronic inflammation, insulin resistance, impaired glucose tolerance, inching toward diabetes. The answer to all of these is to lose weight.
My looks peaked in my 30s and it’s been downhill from there.1 -
I've discussed having trouble staying focused on losing weigh. I literally forget that I want to weigh less. So I'm trying to focus on TWO things that I really want and hoping my desire for those things will keep my attention.
- I want to grab anything from my closet for whatever occasion and know it fits/looks good on me. I don't want to think about what imperfection I'm trying to hide, and I want to stop mentally beating myself up for not losing weight every time I have a special occasion.
- I want to look good with blouses tucked in.
#2 will take exercise as well as weight loss. I was 15 pounds below goal years ago (without exercise) and still wasn't comfortable tucking in blouses/shirts.

- Not to undo all the work that I put in several years ago when I dropped almost 70 pounds. I don't want to go back there again.
- Not to disappoint my darling wife.

My larger, more conceptual reason for losing weight is to avoid the heart attacks and strokes that are present in my family medical history. The smaller markers along that journey are blood work and blood pressure. (Latest weekly BP was 122/66.) weight is a lever to mover the blood work and BP in the right direction.
I’d br lying if I said the wasn’t a vanity element. While I’ll admit that I don’t look as good at 70 as I did at 20, I think I look better at 180 today than I did at 280 when I was 50. There’s a reason why, although my goal weight is in the overweight range, I refer to it as being at a socially acceptable weight.1 -
From the bottom up
1 so the neuropathy in my feet can be reduced
2. so the pain / crackling in my knees & hips will be better
4. so my pre diabetes does not become full diabetes
5. so my various cardiac issues stay under control
6. so I can reduce the risk of another stroke

I think there's a big psychology thing for me: I felt very down on myself when I was heavy. I felt much better about myself when I felt that I had my weight under control. I never want to go back to where I started, but I find that the same psychology tends to play when I'm significantly above my personal target weight even though I've mostly maintained under my WW goal weight for years (there's a ~15 pound difference between the two). I tend to weigh 10 pounds over my personal target when I snack too much and drink too much alcohol, so there is a bona fide reason to recognize that I'm not following the plan I set out for myself.
Other than that, fitting into all of my clothes is very helpful! So is having good biometrics. :-)

My primary goal is heart health. Everything else is secondary.

Primary goal is GOAL! Then TOL won't complain that I'm costing her money.
With that is better fitting clothes as a former clothing salesman that is big for me.
Also, more ambition.
As many note, better health, which at 81 becomes more important.

In the past I've lost weight and gained it back. Before it was always around what I looked like and having clothes that fit. Now that I'm older, I still want those things but I need to add BP, and cholesterol. I'm also hoping some help with joints

Health & mobility.
Lots of old folks here in south FL. The gym I go to twice per week is really for physical therapy. Lot of people fighting to keep moving on their own. Then there’s the diner. They sometimes they need a section to park the walkers. It’s easy to take a lot for granted. It’s coming back to me now. At 285 lbs I was getting to the point where my max walk without resting was 2 blocks. One of several things that scared me enough to act.
