SO SICK of gaining weight!

When I first was told my A1C level, I made some great changes and followed a diabetic diet. Losing 15-20 pounds pretty quickly… but life happened, and I stopped paying attention, so now I am back to where I started.

I am trying to build the motivation to do something about it, and this week has been a good week. Lower carb, higher protein, more moving, smaller portions.

Could use some support in this journey.

Also, how in the world do you make a lifestyle change when you LOVE food?

    This is the challenge.

My experience is that protein endures. You feel full and it is easier to avoid snacking. Fat satisfies.

Habits and patterns of behavior are REALLY hard to change. It is like that wheel goes back in the rut all too fast. I know when I am stressed or burning the candle at both ends, I make bad decisions.

There are people who will swear you don't have to count calories if you are keto. This might be true for them, but it is not true for me.

It's a challenge for me. In my work, I write about food and beverages and do some other food-related marketing. So "food noise" or thoughts are kind of unavoidable. I am pretty motivated by projects and deadlines so I make it a project. Of course, we know the real work in managing diabetes is in the day-to-day details, not a single project. I just find it a useful trick to manage my own motivation.

If you like to cook, you could make it a project to develop or try making low carb versions of your favorite meals. Sometimes, following an exercise program like a 12-week program helps me become more consistent with activity.

That does make things difficult. It is like it is omnipresent "background noise" as you say.

Making it a project is a good strategy. This trick will be maintenance once you reach goal.

    You've got this!

I wish I had some advice to give you. I do my best to eat a 'diabetic' diet. I can't eat high fat because of damage to my pancreas, but I eat between 100-130 carbs a day and 45 gram of protein. It seems to be working. I have had gained some of the weight back, but since January 21, I have lost 13.5 pounds and have kept it off plus or minus 2 lbs. I wanted to reduce my A1C, so I had to watch things a little closer.

    Good luck.
