Today's Topic: Sorry for the lateness of the hour.
Diet and Health Conditions. Some of us have health conditions. No doubt some are more serious than others and some have been medically resolved albeit possibly temporarily and maybe permanently.
Are you sensitive to eating a restrictive diet that either suits your condition or helps to prevent particular heath situations.

I have had some medical issues. One is 2 pacemaker surgeries and heart valve replacement another urinary issues.
My test post pacemaker and heart surgery in January and February of 2020 has revealed no major dietary issues. Then more meds when my bladder quit working in 2023 resulting in full time Catherization.
However my current weight does require action and has for many years. My health issues require several meds. Some of these meds seem to aggravate my attempt to loose weight. I won't go into them as I find them pretty comprehensive. It is a daily battle and I continuously work on my diet and the relationship of the meds working together.

Like all of us who have reached a certain age, I have had my health issues, and the resultant fistful of drugs that I take every day (I think its gods way of getting back at me for some of what I may have done in the 60's) I am not sure if my current weight gain is the result of the drugs or the health issues, or some combination of the 2, but I know I have put on about 10 pounds a year for the last 4 years. The good news is that I seem to be doing a little better at the moment, down 10 pounds since January, so I hope that I am on the right track again.

Thankfully, my health issues are pretty dormant right now. The biggest "diet-related" issue is gout, but I haven't had a bout in a few years, and I don't really alter my diet based on that unless I'm having an issue.

I don’t have any dietary restrictions based on health issues. (That sound you heard was me feverishly knocking on wood.) I take one prescription med for osteoarthritis is my knees, and that’s the one medical issue I’ve had for decades.
But really, my voluntary dietary restrictions are about health and longevity via managing my weight. My diet generally runs high on protein and fiber, and low on fat and sugar - which is the sort of eating pattern the WW points systems pushes you toward. My sodium intake is higher than recommended, but lower than average based on what I’ve read, and I arrive at that simply point by not adding salt to things. Potassium intake also runs lower than recommended in my diet, but like the sodium it’s not an issue in my blood work.
I will say double-tracking in MFP gives me a lot of insight into the impact of my food choices, so I’m glad I do that. I’ll likely need that more going forward to fend off the gifts of both genetics and aging - family history of cardiac issues as well as diabetic tendencies. BP runs about 126/65 and fasting blood sugar runs about 103-105, so both are crowding the boundaries of not requiring treatment.
Always good to have something to look forward to . . . 😉1 -
Over the last year, I have refocused my diet efforts toward heart health. While I still want to lose weight, heart health is more important to me. The two are not mutually exclusive.

I'm in the same ballpark.
Had a triple bypass a couple of years ago, but don't need a pacemaker "YET", as my doctor tells me under his breath.
My knees are both old replacements, but I'm NOT signing up for that again!
The QUALITY of my diet is well balanced. It's the QUANTITY is the problem, and that's why I'm here.

My diet is focused around health concerns. I won't bore you with the shopping list of health issues. Even though my weight loss continues at a tortoise-slow pace this year, I have improved my diet quality, which is as important as the weight loss. I hope to lose another 10 lbs by year's end.
