Today's Topic: Motivation to lose weight. Is it a fair question to ask what part motivation plays in your daily, weekly or monthly eating habits or goals.

Sure, it's a fair question. In this context, I guess motivation refers to the initial driving force that got me wanting to lose weight (looks, health, etc.). Those still exist, but to be honest, I don't actually think about those desires much lately. Instead, "wanting to lose weight" is a given core-value for me that I don't really think much about, but instead is baked into my life. I guess I've been in this state for so long that it's part of my identity, if that makes sense…I'm a person who always wants to lose weight (or at least, weigh a specific weight).

Like Steve, I associate motivation with the initial push. It’s like the starter on your car; it’s essential to help you get going, but it does nothing to help move you down the road. It’s a fickle mistress; it disappears when the going gets tough.

What gets you down the road is (to me) a mix of commitment and priorities.

Motivation to lose weight got the ball rolling. Habit gets the job done!

I see motivation as understanding the "why" you're doing what you're doing. We need to revisit that periodically. But, I also agree that the creation of habits is what accomplishes the tasks.
