HEART 4 WALKING: OVER 40 GROUP

Welcome,
I'm Sofie (aka: Yellow_Rose_Sofie) and I'm a retired first responder. I've created this group to help motivate me to get walking and to keep walking. Why? My doctor told me that it would be good for my particular diagnosis. That being said, if you're new to walking, please consult with your doctor before you begin any new exercises. I hope you are doing well and that you'll join me on this journey for better health.

Hi Sofie!
Nice to "e-meet" you. I love the photo of you and your Dad! Thank you so much for the very important, vital service you gave as a first responder! 🏆
I'm Carole, and I posted my intro on the "New Group/New Members" Announcement page. I would love to get back to regular walking for my heart too, and overall health in general. My blood pressure is up and I don't want to go on meds; so I'm hoping I can take care of this myself by losing weight and staying active.
Did your Dad pass away from heart disease? I'm asking because you said, "reminder". He looks so young in the picture. My mother passed away from congestive heart failure at just 57 years old. (Yellow roses were her favorite!) Now that I'm almost 67, it feels more important than ever that I pay close attention to my health.
I've been diagnosed with borderline cardio megaly (slightly engaged heart) and left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), which occurs when the heart's main pumping chamber, the left ventricle, thickens and enlarges, which can be caused by a number of factors. So far, I haven't noticed any issues, but I don't want it to get any worse, if I can avoid it.
I'm okay with walking because I've never owned a car, and walking is my most frequent form of transportation, when I'm not sick or injured and the weather isn't too bad. Now that my heel is starting to feel better from plantar fasciitis, I want to get back to my regular, commute walking to and from work, about 2.3 miles each way. I'm pretty fast for a short, old lady, as long as I'm not in pain. 😉 (I can average 4mph when I'm not hurting or carrying too much stuff.)
I'm starting a week later (June 30th), if that's okay?
I look forward to sharing this journey with you!
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday!
💕 Carole

Hi @yellow_rose_sofie, I will wait until Monday to see whether there is any other activity in this group. If not, that's okay. I will clear this bookmark at that time and will focus on my other groups and challenges.
If I do see that you have posted, I will enter my workout walk info and total steps for the day beginning June 30th to the current date. Thank you!🌻
Happy Stepping!

Hi Walela617,
I'm so sorry that I missed your posts. We lost two family friends, one on June 28th and one on June 29th. Two different family friends, at two different locations, and life got really crazy for us. I did keep up my walking, so I am very glad to see that you were brave and committed to participating in this 30 day challenge. I was way too exhausted to keep posting daily, after June 28th. I have the heart issue, like you mentioned as well…and I'm not healthy enough yet to recover quickly from a lot of going and helping others in need. This is also a great motivator for me to continue walking. I hope that you'll join us again and that you're doing well on your other health journeys. I am also new at trying to run a walking group by myself, so I'm still learning. Best of luck on your journey in July! Sofie
