Kidneys leaking protein...

is what the doctor told me on my last visit. He didn't explain what that means, or what to do about it. He doesn't do the same thing as my previous doctors on what's supposed to be my diabetes check ups. No weigh ins, no blood pressure check, no foot check. He did tell me to keep track of my blood pressure at home until my next visit.
I checked on Dr. Google about the leaking protein, but like everything about Dr. Google, there are so many 'experts' you can always get a straight answer,

TThat should read 'can't' always get a straight answer

Yikes - this is a new one to me. It sounds like the sort of thing that would have 100 Youtube videos from "experts" that all say something different.
Is this your GP? It is hard to fathom not doing a BP and foot check for a diabetic.0 -
That's what I thought. This is only my second visit with him, so we'll see how the next couple of visits go. I have had high blood pressure since I was pregnant for my first kid, and it's stayed with me ever since. My Granny, mother and some of my sisters have it too. the good number for diabetics is 130/80. I honestly can't remember when it's ever been that low, in 26 years. My baby girl is 43 now, so that's a long time. I've cut way back on salt, I quit smoking 12 years ago, I haven't had any alcholic drinks in well over 20 years. Not that I was a big drinker, but when I did drink, I could get a little out of control. I even switched to decaffenated coffee. Now I know, there is salt in most processed foods, especially lunch meats and snack foods, but I've been limiting them now, especially before my doctor appointments. I could do more exercise, and drink more water, and Those things are still a work in progress. So I'll just keep keeping on until next visit.
Thanks for listening.

You are doing all the right things. I will say the fluid intake is important, and it is especially important in the summer when it is hot.
I am on BP meds, but that is a big club.0 -
What happens during a foot check? I've never had one, I saw it mentioned in the diabetes class book. I guess I need to ask my doctor about it.
I don't know about the kidneys thing, it sounds concerning! I hope you get answers soon.

Due to poor circulation, diabetics are prone to foot infections. Doctors will give your feet a pretty close look and mine does a thumb press in a couple of places - presumably to see how fast the color changes with blood flow
