Hi, all. I’m newly diagnosed type 2 diabetic and I’m having to relearn how to eat. I’m on Metformin twice a day. ChatGPT has been a huge help in figuring out which foods are going to affect me and how to make healthier choices. My goal is to get off medication in a few months, but I have a LOT of work to do.

I’ve cut out all sodas and juices, flour breads and pastas, and over processed foods. In the past month, I’ve gotten my average morning glucose to 138 (Was around 162). Any tips are appreciated.

You answered my question from the welcome thread!

I found that logging and counting carbs helped me get off meds. It took me 18 months, but I did it and have kept A1C's down with diet since 2018 with no meds. I don't know if weight is an issue for you, but getting it down helps a lot.

That is so inspiring! Hopefully I will be able to do the same. Weight isn’t a huge issue, but there is DEFINITELY room for improvement. I’ve lost about 6 pounds in the past month (surely from sodas alone) and I’m hoping to lose another 20 or so before all is said and done.

Track your glucose readings. People will say, "oh you can eat x, and it won't impact the reading." Better to know what it does to yours. You will see patterns and foods that work for you and foods that don't.
