July Walks & Workouts

Hey all. You are doing amazing this month! Super inspiring! Welcome @lois2077!
Sorry to have been a bit absent. Was completely exhausted last week and just worked on getting through it. My sleep has been screwed up for months, ever since I had COVID really, and with all the work craziness as a result of government changes, and a massive grant deadline, I think I just hit the wall. So listened and just did what I could. Which some days wasn't much. Felling better, so got in a short WAH video this morning. No outside walks because the air quality is bad from Canadian wildfires. Hoping that doesn't last much longer.
Looking forward to having a much better second half of July!!

My goal for July is to keep it simple, either 10,000 steps or fit in at least a 20 min Leslie workout.
7/1: 14,505
7/2: 10,502
7/8: 13,599
7/9: 15,986
7/10: 13,072
7/11: 10,339
7/12: 10,910
7/13: 12,273
7/14: Leslie 20 mins, Coach O legs, and Leslie Core & Back. 11,709I finally squeezed in a workout yesterday. We had some trees cut so I took the time trapped in the house with the dog to be productive. My eating was way off this weekend. My arthritis and gut health pay for it terribly so goal today is to flush it out with lots of water. And maybe make it a 2-day exercise streak. Heat and humidity is very high today and tomorrow, but I have Leslie so time to put my big girl pants on!! ππͺ

Still bad air quality and high humidity. So inside workout it is. Did WAH Easy 2 mile this morning. Feels good to be getting back into.
4 -
Fit with Mik this morning for some upper body strengthening. I think I can see a little muscle starting to build out. π
@megd44 We have the same air quality & humidity down here. Looking forward to it moving out in the next day or so.
@lclark04957 I hope you can flush out the after effcts of the bad food. Ry has arthritis and we walk such a tight rope for his food.

Sunday I worked in the garden for 90 minutes. Yesterday I was so bummed I couldn't go to my Boot Camp class because my dad ended up needing help at the last minute. But I'm glad I can help my dad.
@lois2077 A big warm welcome to you! Congratulations on completing one week of your program, excellent work! And, well done on your workout! Great plan and well-rounded goals!
@Deeder522 Whatever you do is commendable and it all still counts! You're doing great! π
@megd44 Listening for what you need is the best thing you can do, and I hope you can get caught up on sleep soon, as that really helps everything go better. I hope your air clears soon. Cheers to the 2nd half of July!

Today I did my personal training session for 30 minutes, mowed for 75 minutes, and gardened for 30 minutes.

I got my Leslie in after grandbaby left. Pretty pleased with myself. I was very close to just chilling the rest of the day, but I did it and feel good. I skipped the outside walk tonight as the humidity is thick with more of the same tomorrow. I finally stepped on the scale tho to see the damage from the last few days and WOW I have some damage control to do. π€¦ββοΈ

15 minutes with Leslie ( I think from Belly Burn DVD) & 5 min Barre Arms with FitbyMik.
Last day of bad air here and I'm ready for it to leave. I made a new loaf of bread and will try making french toast for Ry, with it.
@lclark04957 I feel like I'm in constant damage control with my diet.
@Elfirose33 Nice job getting back into the personal sessions. You do a lot of mowing. Does the yard grow fast or is it a really big yard?
1 -
Last night I walked Dottie 25 minutes. Today I worked in the garden for two hours.
@lclark04957 Good job getting your workout done even though you didn't want to! And hang in there, you'll be back on track with the food in no time at all π
@Deeder522 Thanks! The grass grew fast because it rained a lot in June and we have a pretty good sized yard, too, even though it's not huge. I'm also helping my neighbor mow his yard as well. Good, glad your air there will be clearing out soon, that will be a relief. Good workout! And your bread sounds delightful! π

A cold front came through and brought clear air and cooler temps. I started the day with a walk in the park and almost felt like I could have used a jacket. The sun returns tomorrow and we'll be back in to seasonal 80s.
I'm trying to do my best to stay away from Soda Pop and fast food again. Fringer crossed that I can start a long last streak on that front.2 -
We got the same front @Deeder522. Was rainy yesterday still so I did Burn to the Beat. This morning was perfect and I got a great outside 3 mile loop. Should be good for the next week or so.
Looks like everyone is having a strong month! Great to read. More friends here this weekend and it looks like a river trip happening Sunday. Looking forward to trying the SUP on the river.

Today I did 30 minutes personal training and walked Dottie 25 minutes.
@Deeder522 All the best to you with the food. You can do it!
@megd44 A river trip sounds wonderful! Have fun!

Sorry, haven't been on in a week. Thanks to everyone for your words of encouragement. I'm from Canada where we actually are metric now, but I grew up with imperial, so I do a little of both, HA! Keeping to my food and exercise schedule, but the weight is slow to move. Started measuring my food and I think I will up my weights and see what happens; I keep reading and hearing that post menopause we should do my strength training then cardio.π
2 -
@lclark04957 I love 'Leslie' too, she puts me in a good mood. On the damage control, just get back on the schedule. I'm finding with the elimination of sugar and carbs, my cravings are leaving, first time I have eliminated sugar and carbs completely and it's working!

Hey guys⦠how do I show your profile name in blue when replying?
2 -
@Elfirose33 Good work this past week, gardening is good for everything. Nice you have a dog that forces your out doors!π
3 -
@megd44 Hope you're feeling better soon. As a Canadian, so sorry for the smoke. It's so sad all the wild fires. Sounds like you're back on track now, good for you.π

@Deeder522 Glad to see you're getting muscle definition, I can't wait to see mine. I will check out FitbyMic, good to change up the workouts so I don't get bored. I've included more fat and protein in my diet and I'm finding it's stopping the snacking and cravings. Instead of sugar substitute in my morning coffee, I put a tablespoon of butter (I never liked milk or cream); it's actually really nice. I read or heard somewhere, can't remember where, that even the taste of something sugary will spike insulin, UGH!

Yesterday was very exciting, after much care & planning Ry & I went to our favorite outdoor tail. I walked and he was ablt to ride his bike. He was able to what used to be his normal route but at a much slower rate. Maybe off by 15-20 min. Now we wait to see how his body responds in the next 48-72 hours. π€π»
The trail is about 30 minute North of us, so we borrowed my parents SUV which a slightly more comfortable for Ry to ride in. He was definitely done with car rides by the time we got back.@lois2077 I'm turned 46 and my DR office told me to move into strength training and balance for exercise rather than cardio. I have a cousin who is a health coach and she advised the same. I like Fit by Mik becuase I can do short workouts. So many times I come across and workout is 30 min or more for strength training. Mik has longer videos but start smaller is much better in my opinion.
As far as tagging us in the post: The website has made some awkward changes recently. For me, If I start with the @ and then slowly type the name, a little list of option appears and I can select it. I post from my laptop rather than a phone.3 -
Today I did Step for 60 minutes, rolled some stiff sore muscles on the Foam Roller for 30 minutes, mowed 15 minutes, gardened 25 minutes, and walked Dottie 30 minutes.
@lois2077 Good to see you! π Thank you! Dottie is my dad's dog, a very sweet American Bulldog. Sometimes my dad needs some help getting her walked and I'm the backup walking crew π. I understand, the weight is slow to move for me too. My doctor told me to go by how my clothes feel rather than by the number on the scale because she said muscle weighs more than fat, so as I work to build muscle the scale won't necessarily reflect a loss right away, but my clothes will start to fit differently and get looser in due time. Great work with your food! I can't be a coffee drinker (because coffee doesn't like me and doesn't treat me right π ) but butter in coffee sounds delish!
@Deeder522 So glad you got to go to the trail! Great job to you both! Hopefully everything will be okay for Ry, my fingers are crossed too.

Well⦠down 1 kg in 2 weeks, I was hoping for more, but that's always the way. I changed to a new HIIT workout today rather than the walk with Leslie and I was out of breath in 20 minutes, more than the 45 with Leslie, so I will try keep doing the HIIT this week. and see how it goes. My diet is still on track, I increased my fibre supplement and I think that is helping; also added creatine.
@Deeder522 Nice to have company on your walks, good for you. I don't have, UGH!
@Elfirose33 Yes you are right measurements are important too. I guess I just anxious to get this weight and inches off. We always want the fast method. But I'm happy that I'm not craving sweets and I'm not hungry.
3 -
Today I went swimming 90 minutes and walked Dottie 30 minutes.
@lois2077 Yes, for sure, it's normal to want it all to happen fast. Not craving sweets and not being hungry is a huge win, well done! Good weight loss too. Sounds like a great HIIT workout! You're on your way!

July Goals
Miles Tracked: 46 / 81
Apple Challenge: walk or run 2.5 miles on 14 differnt days. 9 / 14I've had a bussy weekend. Friday at the trail. Saturday girl time with a friend. Sunday the museum with another friend to see the updated planetarium and the Shark exhibit. Today, is my son's 30th Bday. I'm all little off track with my recent exercise trend but I should be back in the saddle tomorrow.
@Elfirose33 swimming is a good workout. We are thinking of try to get Ryan into a pool but we're not sure how his body will react to the chemicals.

Had a great weekend with friends. Couple long hikes and yesterday's paddle. It was a ton of fun but tougher than we thought. Lots of dead fall so that meant I sat/kneeled on my SUP which got brutal at the end. Taking a rest day today but getting some short strolls in.
@lois2077 smoke has cleared from Michigan. Just hope you all are ok in Canada. You've had sone tough wildfire years. And totally agree with you and @Elfirose33 about measurements.
@Deeder522 that is great news about Ryan! Hope he continues to do well.

You are all doing so well and I am barely hanging on by the skin of my teeth!!! Taking care of 6 people (2 of whom are children) is a more than full-time job!!! Of course, one of them is Keto so that is a job all by itself! π It feels like we live at the grocery store! I have a new respect for homestead moms with 4 kids I can tell you that! This week, I get 4 more!!!!! It's getting crazy at the Zicha's this summer!!!!! π€£
One good thing! I am so busy cooking, cleaning and keeping every one in towels that I have little time to eat and am losing weight so there you go @lois2077 -invite 8 people to your house and take care of them-weight just falls off!!!! π
You are all doing so well! I had no idea the wild fire smoke was back in MI. We seem to have escaped it this year thank goodness. It was HHH for a few days, but is now beautiful! Low humidity, sunny and perfect mountain hiking weather, if I could get out long enough to do it! The kids are all hiking, boating swimming and skiing, so it's all good.
@Deeder522 I was so happy to hear that Ryan was out and got to ride his bike and hike the trail!!! I hope he suffered no ill effects. I am making 2 loaves of bread a day to keep up and I do the dough recipe and them bake it in the over as it makes better loaves than my machine. However, I LOVE my machine as it saves a ton of time.
@lclark04957 hang in there as weight is an up and down thing or none of us would be here right? You have been doing great and one bad weigh-in is not the end of the world β¦ trust me I KNOW! ππ
Welcome @lois2077! We are glad you are here and see, I already gave you a great hint for losing that weight-plus you are already down 1K! (2.2 Lbs -see how much better that sounds?)!!! π€£ You are doing great!!!! As I mentioned, my son is on Keto and although he has dropped some of the fat part of the diet, he has stuck to the low sugar and he looks and feels great! He has also lost 15K (lives in Netherlands and is married to a Czech so metric it is!) so stick to it and the pounds will drop off.
@Elfirose33 I always worry when I hear your Dad needs help that his breathing is worse. Glad to hear he just needed a dog walker. You are doing so well with your health goals. Good for you!
@megd44 UGH I was so sorry to hear about the wild fire smoke. I also feel bad for all you are going through with the wacky federal government we have right now. Grants have to be a nightmare! My heart goes out to you. Relax and enjoy your river trip!!!
I am not sure when I'll get to post again, but I know I'll be back posting regularly again on Aug 7!!!! LOL π

Today I did Boot Camp for 60 minutes and walked Dottie 30 minutes.
@Deeder522 Wow, you had a very busy weekend, sounds fun! :) The pool I went swimming in is treated with copper ionizer (not chlorine). I don't know much about that as I'm not the pool owner, but the pool was really nice to swim in.
@megd44 Good for you! Sounds like a very fun weekend! Good idea to take a rest day today.
@zichab Great mileage and workouts there! Sounds like an awesome summer at your house, so happy for you and your family! Thank you:) My dad's breathing is a concern for sure, especially in the humidity and heat we have here these days. But the good news is that he's doing pretty good most days, thankfully! π

I managed to do a Leslie yesterday and Coach O legs. I spent a greater part of the day picking vegetables and blueberries so got some squats and skooches in. The next 3 days are grandbaby days so my goal is to try and walk in the evening after she goes home.

@Elfirose33 Good for you ποΈπΆββοΈ, π! Thought I'd try something different, π€£!
