Today's Topic:  Food Allergies

Can you believe it is the middle of 2025?

Do you, or a family member, have any food allergies that influence your diet or food purchases?

For example, I am allergic to crayfish. But, since I don't run across them often, I don't generally worry about them. I also am allergic to beer, which sucks. I do have to watch out for that one.

OTOH, my daughter has diagnosed Celiac's, Hashimoto's, and Hyperthyroidism - all of which are affected greatly by which foods are consumed - even by cross-contamination with cooking utensils and air delivery. So, when she and her family come over, we are VERY careful with what we serve and how we prepare it.

How about you?

My wife is Celiac, so we eat gluten free. She recently developed a sensitivity to tomatoes, and that put even more limitations on our options. We also avoid seafood from the Gulf of Mexico, due to the chemicals that were dumped there to 'clean up' the big oil spill years ago.

interesting question. I guess my answer is the same I give when the medical providers ask about allergies, which is “not yet”. I recognize that people develop sensitivities to some things later in life, but since I’ve always been pretty insensitive perhaps I’ll be lucky enough to avoid that.

Although I have also used Gavin Flynn's line in some situations - “I’m allergic to ________ ; it makes me break out in fat”.

I’m allergic to mango and carry an epi-pen in case I accidentally eat some at a restaurant. My wife is lactose intolerant That’s scary about the seafood from the Gulf of Mexico

No allergies here, thankfully. I do get rare bouts of gout, so I'm supposed to limit "high purine foods" (including beer and red meat). I don't limit those, and haven't really had a significant problem.
