Metformin usage

Hello everybody,
after the very bad results of my blood tests last April and the check of the sugar curve, my doctor recommended the use of Metformin (to be precise, Retaform 500 mg) and basically explained to me that I need to change my diet and my way of thinking about life in general. The result is that now 15 months later I am at 83 kilos from 123, all my tests are fantastic, I feel great and I continue to limp to reach 80 kilos where I want to stay for quite a long time. Exercise and walking are present in my everyday life. My issue is, and here I would like your opinion, regarding the use of Metformin since even from my previous tests in February I no longer have the numbers that indicate that I have diabetes. When I asked my doctor about this , she told me that I should continue because I'm essentially shielding my body for the future... Of course, I use the app and measure everything in it daily, and at the same time, using ChatGPT, I have an analysis of the glycemic load of each of my meals.

From what I've heard from multiple medical professionals, you can't really cure or reverse diabetes, even though some people use that language. Many people can manage their glucose levels and see nondiabetic lab numbers as a result of some combination of diet, exercise, weight loss, stress management, or medication. I've heard this referred to as well-managed, well-controlled, or even remission. But that's as long as you stay healthy and maintain whatever improvements you made.
Some find their glucose creeps up with age or changes over time. So it's always something to keep an eye on. Sometimes people who are managing everything well still face complications if they catch a virus or get an infection from a cut or injury.
I don't know whether you specifically need metformin or not. Some people are able to manage their glucose without any medications, while others need or prefer medication. Unfortunately, I don't think there is really a one-size-fits-all with diabetes. And it may change over time.

I manage my BG with diet. I do not say I am no longer diabetic, and if the numbers creep up again with time/age, I will go back on the meds. It took me 18 months with a lot of trial and error - lots of monitoring with finger pricks to figure out what worked for me.
"Unfortunately, I don't think there is really a one-size-fits-all with diabetes. And it may change over time." This → +1
I follow a fairly extreme diet that suits me, but it is not something that is sustainable for everyone.0
