Today's Topic: Habits
Are there habits that have served you well in the past that no longer serve you well? Have you taken steps to change them?
(I didn’t tag this as “late” because I know I posed it Monday. “The fault, dear Brutus, lies not in our stars but in MPF.”)

What's a habit?
I am not trying to be difficult. But, we talk about habits regularly. "Do it until it becomes a habit."
Working with that assumption, it's a habituated activity. Something we do without thought? And, is that a good thing? Doing something without thought? How does that affect the effectiveness of "the habit?"
I have eaten oatmeal or quality cereal for breakfast for years. I have realized over time that I need to eat later. I've realized I don't feel hunger until much later in the morning. I am not going to eat just because it's a specific time. So, that has changed over the last couple of years.

LOL - Greg, I’m certainly the last person to criticize someone for trying to define a term before they answer.
I think that for me, a habit is a behavior or approach that has become instinctual. It’s our pre-programmed response to a situation. It’s our default mode.
For me, that habit is eating points because they are available. When I “grew up” on WW, the model was that you could eat all your points and still lose weight. That was important for me, because by eating all my daily/weekly/activity points, I could indulge and feel I wasn’t depriving myself. That was helpful to keeping me on the plan.
Now? I’m not sure that mindset or approach is helping me, or even viable. As they say in Texas, “I’m fixin' to think about it” to decide if I can or should change that, or if I need to respond to the situation differently.

I’m questioning my oatmeal habit in terms of whether it’s still the best choice for me. I’m experimenting with something with more protein. My last attempt at this did not go all that well and went back to oatmeal. More later on this when I finalize the recipe.
And a big LOL on this - for yrs my “healthy” breakfast was a large (unmeasured) bowl of Kellogg’s Raisin Bran. Topped with a banana and 2% milk to keep the calorie count down. When I started WW I calculated this point bomb and saw it had to go. Not even free fruit in those days. I decided oatmeal was the way to go. I recall practically choking it down the first couple of weeks.

George - if you’re looking for more protein . . .
My normal breakfast is homemade muesli. Before you get scared off, let me tell you what it is. It’s a contained of plain fat free Greek yogurt, a half-cup or more of sliced strawberries, 35 grams of Fiber One Original cereal, and two packets of Splenda to cut the tartness of the yogurt. It’s all mixed together in a bowl for one point. It’s enough to keep me satisfied until lunch. It’s 27 grams of protein and 19 grams of fiber.
(if I’m feeling wild and crazy, I’ll substitute a banana and Cheerios for the strawberries and Fiber One - but it doesn’t pack the same NI hit.)1 -
My long-time habit of night eating does not serve me well. When I think about it, there is no purpose served. I'm not especially hungry, at least not in the sense that I can't wait until morning to eat. I find eating at night comforting and relaxing, and tend to eat less-than-nurtritous food. This can throw the whole day out of whack. What to do? Stop eating at night! Easier, by far, said than done.
