Hi I am type 2 and have been for about 6 years. Its well controlled and I feel real good. I am struggling with losing weight though. I have just begun to follow a 2000 cal diet. I have gotten 30 minutes exercise a day for 2 years now. I take 35units of Lantus twice a day. And antidepressants. I believe my meds are holding me back in losing weight. Does anyone else here ever run into this problem? If so did you figure out a way to lose?

No advice but welcome!!!! Did MFP suggest a 2000 calorie diet? For me, it suggests 1350 plus I eat about 1/2 of my exercise calories. I have heard that Lantus can cause weight gain issues-- I take metformin and bydureon.

Hello and welcome to a wonderful group of people here on the diabetic web site. :) For myself, if I eat 2000 calories a day, I end up gaining and that is with all the exercising I do. One thing with this journey, it is all trial and error too. Each one of us here (with diabetes) has different things that work for them, but won't work for others. Again. Welcome and sorry for the late welcome :)

I've always heard that certain medicines can affect weight gain - especially anything insulin related. I also take Bydureon and Metformin for my Type II. And Bydureon really helps with weight loss if you combine it with a good diet. I eat 1200 + and balance fats, carbs, and protein. I've lost 79 lbs in 1 year with 12-22 left to lose.
