First Tri 24 days away.... advice?

My first triathlon is October 12 and I am nervous. It is a sprint and I just want to finish.
My mom is a world class triathlete and I have watched her most of my life, so I know the technical stuff and what gear to bring and all of that fun stuff.
I am nervous more about my fitness level. I know that I can do the swim, the bike and the run..... but can I do them all together? I have done a few brick workouts where I got off the bike and ran a little... but a mile at most.
Should I do more and longer brick workouts, or should I focus on improving in each area seperately? Or am I letting my nerves get the best of me and should I just keep on keeping on and have fun on race day?

I am by no means an expert, as this summer was my first foray into tri world (did three sprints) but here's advice from a noob:
1) Practice your bricks - for sprint distance, I found doing 6mi on the bike followed up by a 2mi run worked best for me, but I gave race effort
2) Learn how your heart rate responds from each part and manage it (especially from bike to run)
3) Try to train on the course if you can
4) Train both of your transitions exactly as you will be doing at the event0 -
I'd suggest trying to get a couple more bricks in with distances similar to what your race will be (more to see how it feels, keep to a training pace) other than that....rehearse your transitions, knowing exactly how your kit will be organized in the t-zone makes it one less thing to think about on race day.
Have fun!0 -
If you can handle all 3 disciplines you can handle the race. My advice is to keep training each separately. Maybe throw a brick in here or there. Really there is no physical benefits to bricks, there is some mental.
On race day just focus on the next task in front of you and keep plugging along.0 -
Try to just enjoy it. My first tri was about 3 weeks ago with the same goal...just finish! Relax, if you have trained for the separate events you will be fine.
Here's hoping for a great race!0 -
Thank you all for the great advice! I think a lot is mental training more than physical. I am getting excited though!0
