Long Haul Flights and Airport Choices, Anyone?

Hi all, I am a frequent "long-haul" traveler, mostly on planes.

After a year-long hiatus in which I did not travel due to illness, I fell completely away from my exercise program (with a consequence of a twenty pound weight gain). I am now counting calories for the first time in my life! Am concerned about returning to the airways with virtually no plan for losing weight on the road.

My upcoming flights will range between 6-13 hours long... quite a way to go, and definitely requiring sensible meal choices. The trips come with 3-4 hour layovers in airports. I am still limited to non-lifting or heavy weight-bearing exercises for the forseeable future.

Anyone have any tips, secrets, or general advice for a returning road warrior? Am especially interested in your thoughts on making choices and tracking calories with airport and airplane foods. (I have also relocated to the Southern Hemisphere, so no longer have access to American food pre-packaged food products.)

Thanks in advance, everyone!
