hi everyone
just wondering what foods contain trans fats? I'm guessing they are something still to be avoided even on a keto diet?

I think most of these are gone from Fast Food.
So the story is that McDonalds and most of the Fast Food industry all used to use Beef Tallow (yay! Healthy saturated fat!) . The CSPI (Center for Science in the Public Interest) pressured the industry to change away from those dangerous animal saturated fats over to Transfats. Thanks CSPI! The documentary Fat Head suggests that some of this was motivated by vegetarianism for the head of CSPI. Who knows. But we ended up getting hydrogenated vegetable oil (aka transfats) instead of beef tallow.
As part of their vilification of saturated fat, the CSPI also forced movie theaters to get rid of coconut oil for the popcorn - and of course, now we LOVE coconut oil.
Then in the mid-90's the CSPI started crusading against Transfats. Most fast food places have now phased them out. McD's, Burger King, Wendy's, Arby's, KFC, Taco Bell - all of them have phased them out. Even crisco has been reformulated to not contain transfats.
The US requires labeling of transfats, so it should be visible. Remember though, things like dairy and beef may contain NATURAL transfats, and the jury is out on whether those are dangerous - or actually beneficial.0 -
You want to avoid them no matter what your diet.
In humans, consumption of trans fats increases the risk of coronary heart disease by raising levels of LDL cholesterol and lowering levels of "good" HDL cholesterol.
If ever there were a food that's intentionally trying to kill you, that's it.
