erratic cyles and PMS

Is it just me?:flowerforyou:

So my cycle is completely erratic now, anywhere from 13-70 days.
I had a 24 day cycle from age 12 on, unless I was on BCP.
The last two years it's been all over the place. That part I can live with, but...

Now, the PMS starts as usual but then it continues....sometimes the whole way until the dang period comes.
In fact, this month, PMS hit (hard) on day 18. I'm now at day 27....

(I never had very bad PMS. This must be karma)
As you can guess, this is one of those months lol.

I've been following a "no wine on school nights (work nights)" motto, but hell! I'm going to have some wine tonight. Hubby will thank me later. :drinker:

I'll be super glad when this is over.

Want the good news or the bad?
Cutting out alcohol and caffeine helped me a lot.
BUT - I started menopause about 7/8 years ago.
Still get hot flushes and mood swings, but you cope better as you go along. (much better at apologising than I used to be!!!)
    Everyone is different.
Don't be hard on yourself, you'll settle eventually.
    Take care.

Smiles. I don't get much caffeine (except when I can't sleep) and fortunately, wine doesn't seem to make a difference in my symptoms.
But thanks, I can't WAIT for my symptoms to settle!
Hot flashes aren't too bad now. Night sweats kinda suck.
It's the erratic cycles and wicked PMS right now....
    Glad yours got better.

Girl, it's not just you! :frown: I was happily going through life for about a year popping the progesterone & cycling somewhat normally until mid July. Since then it's been PMS & some times a little bleeding (leaving me to try to figure out if it's fibroid or "actual" period). August brought my first bout of some hot flashes (no sweating) & not sleeping more than 3 hours a night. This month no more hot flashes/sleepness nights but now am noticing more hair loss; no bald patches but just more hair in the drain than usual. The hormone doc I had seen for a 2nd opinion had prescribed a small-dose estradiol combined with my progesterone that he wanted me to start but then I started a streak of what feels like my high estrogen symptoms with the anxiety, weight gain, breast & fibroid swelling, etc so haven't taken that yet.

Got my blood work done Thursday & have a scheduled annual Pap with PCP this coming Thurs. I get this is why they call it "the change", I really do but geez....:grumble:

Guess I'm lucky, no hot flashes or night sweats (knock on wood), but the cycle is crazy! Nothing for two months, then really heavy then spotting. I just want normal! I used to be so regular, my husband could even tell me where I was in my cycle.

And I really never had bad PMS, until now. I cry at the drop of a hat, I scream at everybody and the smallest things set me off! Maybe I need wine! Or to cut out my caffeine.

Another thing I am struggling with is not being able to sleep. I used to sleep a full 8 hours and go to sleep when my head hit the pillow. Now, I'm lucky to stay asleep for 6 hours.

Have you tried supplementing with BCAAs? Part of the problem during perimenopause is that the hormone fluctuations makes it difficult for the body to process amino acids. This contributes to symptoms such as bloating and fatigue. If nothing else, it may help put a little more pep in your step if you are able to get enough nutrition in. I have also added in bromelain after a high protein meal. This enzyme breaks down the protein into more digestible form so that your body can get the nutrients it needs.

Wine can give me terrible night sweats so be careful with that!

You have to find what works for you. It can be a brutal process. I finally got settled by taking Cymbalta, estrogen and exercise.

I still have an occasional hot flash, but I am a lot nicer and I sleep at night as long as I get enough exercise. Caffeine is still my friend, along with chocolate and an occasional cocktail.

I was without a period for 2 years, and now I am having them again at age 47. I am not alarmed by any of it, nor is my doctor and she is wonderful. I just manage the symptoms and on the days that my anxiety spikes, I take a nerve pill. I can't control a natural process my body must go through, but I am open to whatever makes me comfortable in the process.

I watched my best friend suffer through "natural" remedies, get fired twice because of her moods, and nearly divorce. So I just take my pills and nobody gets hurt.

I'm working to do this with my body... I whine a lot. For sure. But I'm also happy doing what I know is right for me.

and here I am a month later. day 35. insomnia. lol

No seriously. As much as I moan and whine, I'm happy to be doing this my way.

Is going back on BCPs an option?

For me? Not a snow ball's chance in hell. I HATED hormonal BC.
I'd rather wonder when my period's coming and be cranky (naturally) than do hormonal BC. I'm one of those women who have too many side effects.
