Exercise. Beneficial?

I have read a number of posts, half say that exercise slows down your weight loss on Atkins and that you should avoid it and the other half saying it gives you better results and i am very confused.

I like to exercise and walk an hour a day and i have recently started the 30 day shred and i have also ordered a kettlebell to do some weight training a couple of times a week.

By doing this, surely my body isn't going to stay the same? well i hope not anyway!

Exercise for fitness, Nutrition for weight loss.

My personal opinion is that you do not need to exercise to be successful.

You have to decide what the goal is.
If the goal is exclusively to lose weight, not exercising may actually be faster.
If the goal is to lose body fat while becoming fit, then do exercise - but you will probably see slower losses.

Exercise is beneficial for health. Diet is for weight loss. Gary Taubes discusses this in his book, and it makes sense: when you expend energy, you increase appetite. Your body needs to refuel. This can potentially be an issue if one justifies higher calorie or carb laden foods because they've worked out. Also, if one refuels with starches and causes a rise in insulin, that energy expenditure will never tap into fat stores.

I personally work out because I enjoy it and I will continue to do so. For weight loss, my diet takes precedence. They say you can't outrun a bad diet and I have found this to be sooo true.

I get much better results when I exercise. True, I stick to 90% cardio, and only %10 weights, but as the dear, departed Doctor Atkins himself said, "If you aren't exercising, then you aren't doing Atkins."

    Thank you :)

To be honest if the scale doesn't drop but my body changes and I look toned and fitter then I will be much happier.

I will balance it out only exercise four days a week rather than six and see where that gets me!
