Getting back in shape for pregnancy

I have a history of starting things and not finishing them. I feel like this time will be different, but I've felt like that before. I have a good solid reason this time though, so we'll see.

So I'm posting this to try to stay accountable. We'll see how it goes!

I'm starting today. I have a toddler (20 months) and recently had a miscarriage and gained some more (already plenty overweight) with that pregnancy/miscarriage. I'm just hitting my first fertile period following the miscarriage, and it's made me do some thinking. I've decided to put off trying again for 3 months. I'm not one of those people who loves being pregnant. My first was quite uncomfortable. I had severe pelvic pain that persisted for about 6 months after my son was born (and still happens every now and then). I've decided to dedicate myself for 90 days to getting myself in better shape before getting pregnant again. I'll still be overweight, but I'll be in a better place than I am now.

For diet, I use a bodymedia fit link. I generally eat 1800-2300/day since getting it (a little over a week). So far that feels good for me. I do want to lose weight. I want to wear regular people clothes/pregnancy clothes. I want more to choose from than just the tiny plus size selection in the back of the maternity store. So I know for that, it's a combination of weight and toning. That's why I chose JMBR. That, plus I already own it. Like I said, I have a history of not finishing things.

I just wanted to throw out a quick introduction here. I'm hoping to log my progress here as I go along too. Hopefully it will go well for me and I can have an awesome after in 3 months! I'll add before stats this evening.

    Day 1

I was worried tonight. Picking up the living room, I had a sudden twinge in my knee. It went away immediately and I didn't feel it again, so phew.

So how it went: I paused 3 times. I couldn't finish the planks. I've always sucked at planks. I suppose being 70 or so lbs overweight doesn't help that, so I didn't make it all the way through that. I also had to pause during each set of bicycles. Other than that, it went great.

On the frustrating part: my bodymedia says I burned under 200 calories. Bullhooey. I know it doesn't make a real difference, but I like to see realish numbers. Also, it means it still says I'm short of my burn target for today by about 80 calories. I have a hrm, but I misplaced the chest strap months ago. Hopefully I'll find it again and I can get a comparison.

    Numbers:

    Ht 67"
    Wt 228.2
    Upper chest 38.5
    Bust 45
    Midriff 39
    Upper arm 14
    Waist 42.5
    Upper hip 48.5
    Lower hip 52.5
    Upper thigh 30.75
    Calf 16
Pants 22. I fit a layne Bryant 20 fine, but that's vanity sizing at its finest.

Sorry for your loss, and good luck sticking with it. It is a great decision to try and improve your health before getting pregnant again.

I am so sorry for your loss :(

You and I are in similar boats, as I started my journey to get stronger/lose weight after a partial molar pregnancy 4 months ago. Partial molar pregnancy is a rare type of miscarriage that can become cancerous, so my risk for getting cancer in the next year is elevated. We are medically benched from TTC until 6 months after my surgery, which puts me at my due date of early January.

I decided I wanted to take this time to get my body in better shape before we try again. I think it's a great attitude to wait a few months so you can have a healthier pregnancy than just rushing into things. Plus, it can take that long for your hormones to even out again, so mentally it might be a good move too.

Keep up the great work! I've loved BR (I'm in the first half of Phase 2- been doing BR for about 2 months now) and have been amazed at the changes I've seen in just 4 months of being committed to getting healthy (see my profile pic for where I was right before the miscarriage to where I am as of Saturday.)

Feel free to add me as a friend if you want more support! I'm a vegetarian who eats mostly vegan right now, and I log every day.
