I just started the process of WLS I am getting the sleeve. I am excited and nervous about the journey. I am on the diet they give right before the surgery. I am supposed to stay on the diet until I see the NUT next month. I am not really hungry. I have started to exercise. Is there anything else I should be doing to lose the 25 pounds I need to lose before surgery. I don't have a surgery date yet. I did my consult in august. How long is the typical wait for surgery? They have a support group at the clinic but I live thirty minutes away from the clinic. I just guess I need to know that I did not make a bad decision to get this surgery. I have been over three hundred pounds for at least five years. I and have tried several options. I did a weightloss program with a nutritionist and exercise coach and lost 25 pounds and gained 15 pounds. Then tried Adapex but being bipolar I went into a mixed state and had to stop the medicine. My General doctor suggested that I go ahead with the surgery. But I have a lot of people trying to talk me out of it. Any ways any support would be great and friends would be good too.

Given that your general doctor is supportive, it sounds like you are making the right decision.
Typical wait for surgery....Anywhere from a month to a year depending on how many hoops you have to jump through for insurance, what your personal complicating factors are, how many consults/tests you need to do ahead of time, and how busy your doctor's surgery schedule is.0 -
From your picture, you look young. Go for it...I have been overweight my entire life. What a waste!! I wish I had made this decision years ago. Although it probably wasn't as safe then as it is now.
I'd follow your doctor's advise not people around you. They aren't you and don't know what being overweight is like. Making a change now will impact your life for the future.
I finally made the decision. My surgery is scheduled 10/21. Even though it is scary, I'm so glad I finally made the choice. I have spent too many years and on too many diets being over weight. This is going to change my life for the good. It will change yours as well. Good luck with your decision. I hope you can find someone close to you to give you support in your process.0 -
Welcome! I've had people try to talk me out of it, but get more support than not. A couple of friends my age tell me the negatives and if I just ate like I will have to after the surgery I wouldn't need it. They are much thinner of course, and I know they mean well, just concerned, but I have tried "numerous" things and do not want to wait any longer. Actually I would have done it years ago, but my husband was so set against it. Then he started having medical issues about 5 years ago complicated by being over weight and then last year a surgeon said he needed it when he had his large hernia removed (the size of 9 month preg woman). So he agreed and had the sleeve. He did have a lot of issues, just adjusting since he really only had about 2 weeks to prepare and not much counseling. But he is now 150# lighter and says would do it again in a heartbeat. He feels better than he can ever remember in his life.
Anyway, sorry I got so long winded, but keep posting and we'll help each other through the process.0
