Hello from Iowa

Hi - I just downloaded the My Fitness Pal app last Sunday. Well, actually I had downloaded it originally in January and then didn't do anything with it and deleted it. But I'm back again as it seems like the best app I can find for tracking. I turned 60 in June and I'm determined to be healthy in "senior" years. Glad to find you!

    Welcome to MFP.

I thought I had lost my weight once and for all when I dropped almost 50 lbs. in my 50s, made menopause much easier, but my job changed and stress eating resulted in my putting back on almost 40 lbs. After trying to lose it on my own I finally joined here and with the app am finding it easy to follow. And this is the first time I have really tracked what I was eating and how much I was exercising.
I joined beginning of July and am down 15 lbs so far and already much fitter than I have been in the last 5 years.

Wishing you much success, if you follow the program you will lose and feel better. Feel free to invite me as a friend if you are going to be looking for support friends.

    Welcome Smalltowntwo,

This is a fantastic site--a wonderful group of encouraging and supportive people.

I stayed pretty thin from the time I turned 30 until I quit smoking when I was 50. Now the scale goes up and down frequently. But I did lose 5 lbs before MFP and 15 lbs in the year that I've been logging on MFP. Now I'm obsessed with logging (LOL). But for me, it is the only thing that works. BTW, I'm 64 and not working. I hate to call it retired because I think I would love to work, even part time, but there is nothing in the area where I live. Oh well. This way I can enjoy the grandchildren whenever they become available (which is rarely).

    Welcome, and good luck!

Welcome back to MFP, and especially to this group! I find it's much better to have most friends my own age, as we understand each other a lot better! There are some wonderful people here who log in daily and really support one another, sharing diaries, highs and lows and even recipes! If your diary is open to friends, if you are willing to both give and get support, I'd love you to add me to your friends list! Send a friend request! And good luck on your Journey!
  • Hi, I am Karen, from Wisconsin. Just joined about 3 weeks ago...still getting the kinks out. I am so used to doing it the Weight Watcher way, that it will take a bit of training to go back to counting calories, instead of points! Very happy to see a group that is age related. I will be 60 in December.

    Hi Karen,

I'm in northern Illinois and have been on MFP about 18 months. I did WW several years ago and find MFP much easier to use. I've lost 15 lbs since I've been on MFP and have 5 more to go. This is a very encouraging and supportive group, so I know that I will do it. I've also realized that I will have to log/track my calories for the rest of my life if I don't want to keep going up and down.

There is a wonderful chat group for us "older folk" and a challenge page for those of us who need motivation of very simple exercises to do every day.

    Welcome and good luck.
