JMBR & C25K

Hi everyone! I purchased BR several months ago but never got started...life got in the way and I managed to gain 20 lbs instead of losing the 35 I wanted to lose at the time! Now, I'm here needing to get rid of 55 lbs! I'm getting married in the Caribbean in July 2014 and I refuse to look like this in my wedding pictures!!!

Anyway...my daughter is doing Girls on the Run (an AMAZING program for girls aged 8-13) and, as motivation, I committed to being her running buddy for the 5K they do at the end of the program (Dec 7th). So, I started C25K in anticipation of this race, but I want to begin BR as well.

Do most of you do BR 6 days a week? If so, do you do additional cardio as well? What does your schedule look like? I was thinking I would do M/W/F C25K and BR T/W/Th/S, with Sunday as a rest day, concentrating on the BR weights videos, rather than the cardio. That way, my only double workout day will be Wednesday. I have a pretty hectic schedule, but 30 minutes each morning (1 hour on W) seems pretty doable to me. Do you think I'll see decent results with only 4 days a week, or should I try a different strength program?

Thanks and I look forward to chatting with you all through this program!

Personally, I do just the videos in the order as the plan/book indicates it should be done.

I did both programs at the same time. When I first started JMBR, I did the workouts as she had scheduled them, and I ran 3 days a week for C25K. However, on days I didn't do C25K, I went for long bike rides. I do some form of cardio daily regardless of the JMBR schedule. As I progressed through JMBR, I eventually quit doing her cardio videos because I found them boring and would do my own form of cardio, but I still did her weight lifting routines as scheduled. I think it is entirely up to you.

I finished C25K before I started BR but I still TRY to run twice a week in place of her cardio. I feel her cardio is mainly just to keep you moving. Lately it has been running once every two weeks and just doing the cardio since my running buddy has had scheduling conflicts (I need him to push our other jogging stroller :O). BR has really helped in my stamina in running. Even going only every two weeks, I am able to almost the whole 30 minutes (I walk when I get some water so maybe minus a minute.

I did them concurrently. I was about halfway through C25k when I started BR.

I essentially do her program but skip the cardio DVDs and replace them with C25k. If I ran 3x in a week, I just picked up where I left off with BR the next day, or after a rest day. Usually I workout 5 days per week.

I did find it significantly harder to run while doing BR due to major leg soreness. But I was able to keep progressing, and ran my first 5k without stopping several weeks ago.

Now I'm more focused on improving my strength in BR (on Phase 2 now), and maintaining/increasing my 5k time. They are both great programs, and you can definitely succeed doing both at the same time. Good luck!

I do BR 5 days a week, I follow the workouts as the book states but I don't do Saturday's or Sunday's (unless I have to from not doing a workout during the week) I also do Zumba twice a week (T/TH). I did this program a year ago, got through the end of Phase 1, had the flu and never went back. I was doing the same schedule then as well and still had great results. Best of luck!

    Thanks everyone for your replies!

I still haven't decided what I'm going to do - I really want to make sure I stick to C25K and see it through to the end but I feel I need to add some type of strength training in, as well. I'm such an "all or nothing" type thinker - it may drive me crazy to sprinkle in BR 3-4 days a week and not do it as prescribed! I'm a bit OCD....

Maybe I'll find another video(s) to add in strength for the next 5 weeks, then focus on BR after the 5K. It's a mental thing with me - if it's a "program" I want to do the whole thing!
