What to do about unripe fruit

I have been enjoying my banana based smoothies for a while but wanting to use other fruits as well. The only problem I have encountered is unripe fruit that is bitter or just not sweet. Mango- how to get a fresh one to ripen? I also bought some frozen fruit saying it's great for smoothies, but the peaches and mango in it was also unsweet. I choose not to use any added sweetener other than what's already in the fruit.
Any suggestions?

My current smoothie recipe:
1/2 banana
3 ice cubes
handful spinach
1 tsp cocoa powder
1 tblsp natural peanut butter (no sweetneres added)
1/2 cup unsweet vanilla almond milk

How ripe do you let the bananas get? I'll let them get ripe until the skin is almost black (lots of spots), then peel and freeze. I'd never eat them by themselves that ripe, but I find them great (sweeter) in smoothies. Also economical if the grocery store is getting rid of really ripe ones cheap.

I am not so concerned about bananas. I do know you let them just sit out and they will ripen. What I want to try is mango. Will just sitting one out ripen it as well? And how about the bitter frozen strawberries and other frozen fruit? What do you do to ripen other fruits?
