skinny fat girl needs advice....so frustrated!!

Hey everyone,
Here's my deal i'm 5'8 135 and 28/29% body fat!!! I have zero muscle and can literally pull inches of skin off of everywhere. I'm currently in stage on of new rules on the 6th workout, so about a month or so in. Things are going good, but I had previously done Jamie Eason's Live Fit trainer for the 3 months prior to this, therefore making this the 4th month of lifting. My problem and frustration is that I haven't gained or lost any weight! Infact, I don't really see any muscles or feel any tightness in body parts at all!!! I am stronger, but I was wondering when people really start to see results? I realize that in order to build muscle I need to be at a surplus and to lose body fat the I have to be at a deficit, but I suppose I'm looking for advice from anyone that has a similar issue and how they overcame it, or women who ate at a surplus how long it took to see results? thanks:)

Did you take before and progress photos? Your mind's eye falls about 6 months behind your actual changes.

yes I do have some, from about 2 months ago, except my measurements aren't changing, so I don't think there would be any change.... I'm hoping that when I get to the cardio stages that I will start to shed some body fat.

    I'm in the same boat.

My measurements and weight aren't changing, but I'll say halfway through stage 3 and I am seeing very slight definition in my arms and thighs. My rear is less flat too.

I'm roughly the same size as you- 5'7" and change, and my weight fluctuates all through the 130s since starting NROL4W, but tends to hover around 135. My measurements have actually gone UP in some places (biceps, thighs, and butt, mostly), but the visual difference is staggering (in a good way). Take some pictures and put them side by side with the ones from a few months ago, and take new ones at the end of every stage. It's really helping to keep me motivated.

As far as losing fat goes, why not get a jump start on cardio now? Do 30 minutes of intense cardio on a few of your off days- enough to get your heart pounding and your clothes soaked. Dance, jump rope, play basketball, jog, swim, kickbox, whatever gets you moving. It helps me work out my soreness between lifting days.

I saw some changes by the end of Stage 1, but it really picked up by the end of Stage 2. Hang in there!

Are you eating at a deficit/maintenance/surplus? I don't have much advice- to recomp by eating at maintenance is extremely slow. Lyle McDonald addresses this on his website in many articles:http://www.bodyrecomposition.com/fat-loss/reducing-body-fat-percentage-by-gaining-muscle-qa.html

Keep working hard and you will see results! If you're stronger, feel better, and enjoy lifting you've made great progress in only 4 months:)

I guess I'm pretty much eating at maintenence since I haven't lost or gained anything. I'm going to start to eat at a small deficit and hopefully with the HIT workouts in stage 2, I will start to see some results , and I'll check at the link to this article. Thanks:)

@ stef_monster... I would like my measurements to go up in some places! and hopefully by the end of stage 2 I'll start to see some changes... are you eating at a surplus?

I'm trying to eat at a deficit- TDEE -20% most of the time. I have a 'free' day once a week (more like free meal most weeks), and on my days off work I eat a little closer to maintenance. On the whole I'm eating at a deficit. I'm way too scared to try for maintenance or surplus. I don't think I record accurately enough to make it work.

I have started to put extra focus on my macros, though. I've been trying to up my protein intake (I'm a vegetarian and I do too much cardio) to combat lean muscle loss, and I guess it's helped? This is the first time I've done actual weightlifting, so I don't have prior experience to compare it to. I never got results like this from circuit training, that's for sure.

@stef-monster... Ok I'll try to do a deficit and see what happens... I was on a 3 month weight training program before (a split routine 1 muscle group a day, 6 days a weeks, plus 3 to 4 days cardio) I suppose it helped prepare me for lifting but still didn't see any results, and I quit doing as much cardio because I felt like any muscle I could be building was getting eaten by the cardio! ... I am VEGGIE too, so it's been hard to get 135g of protein a day. I live off protein bars!!! Anyway I look forward to seeing some results but I got a long way to go!!
