What type of carb?

hi everyone

So i've been wondering this for a while now, does the source of carb actually matter on a keto based diet? Or is it simply the amount? For example let's say all you plan to eat in a day is meat, eggs, a little dairy..would a small amount of oats at say 20g carbs be ok? or is it best to only get the carb source from veggies?

best to log everything and make sure you're getting your fiber. a small amount of oats probably won't throw you out of keto but if you don't scale measure it, it's very easy to get more than that with something like oats. Some people get thrown out of keto easily some don't. Logging where you are and checking with the keto stix will give you a good idea of how many carbs your system can take.

It matters to me because the glycemic index & insulin response to those types of foods such as grains & sugars is incredibly high. Also my carb are kept around 20 so that would be my whole days worth. Carb heavy food like oats will cause more cravings & may fill you up quickly but leave you hungry shortly after.Unlike fat which keeps you satiated longer. On keto your primary source of energy should be fat! Protein should be moderate as it can turn to glucose too, then carbs from veggies, which most are low in glycemix index. Fiber shouldn't be too much of a concern if your on a LCHF diet as fat will works AS the fiber, but if your on a High carb diet you need fiber to help process those types of foods.

I think it's best to spread the carbs across the meals and not concentrate them. Different people have different levels of tolerance. For my husband, a high protein meal without much fat or carbs will trigger an insulin response and kick him out of ketosis (excess protein converts to glucose in the body, and can impact ketosis). I'm not as sensitive. But if you're trying for ketosis, I would not go this route.
