Caloric intake??

Hi all, I am almost 7 months post-op for gastric bypass. I am still losing weight (about 3-4 pounds a month) which I know is slow but still progress! I normally eat about 1300 calories a day and I burn almost 700 at Bikram (hot) yoga 6-7 days a week. When I went for my 6 month follow up, my dietician asked me to eat more fruits and veggies but otherwise said I was doing good. When I saw the surgeon he said I should decrease my caloric intake to 800 calories!! I confirmed that he wanted me to still burn almost 700 a day and he said yes. This seems a bit extreme to me... thoughts???
Thanks!!!!!!

For the first ten months after surgery, I averaged 1,040 calories a day, before gradually increasing for maintenance. I'm also likely bigger than you, at 6'3" and was 359 day of surgery.

My feeling is, there is a window to lose weight easily, where you feel very little hunger, and living on few calories is not a burden. By the time ten months to a year rolls around, hunger cravings start to come back with a vengeance. It was best for me to get the weight off quickly before the window closed.

And please, ignore what you think you are burning in exercise. All of those numbers are vastly inflated. I never once ate back exercise calories, at all. I stuck to my daily calorie goal as closely as I could.

I am a year and a couple weeks post gastric bypass. I lost 100% of my excess weight in an 8 month time frame--meaning I hit normal BMI. I am working on MY goal now. I still eat about 1000-1200 calories a day, no matter how much or how little exercise I get. I do get in fruits and veggies. All of my dinners have lots of peppers, squash, broccoli, cauliflower, etc. incorporated in. Mind you, the amounts don't need to be high, Such as one of my favorite snacks is half of an apple sliced with a bit of nonfat plain Fage Greek yogurt mixed with a packet of nutrasweet and some cinnamon to smother them in. The amounts do not have to be large in quantity, just get some in. I do have a site for the bariatric food pyramid that I will be glad to share again.

If you weighed 359 and lost 292, are you ok?

I had lost quite a bit before the day of surgery, obviously. I suppose I could still be alive at 67 pounds, but barely!

When i was at your stage i ate 800-900 calories a day. i never eat back my exercise calories even now. Personally, i think 1300 is way too much for you if you want to reach your goal weight. At 5 years out i usually eat 1800-2000 to maintain.
