Move on or stay in a Phase

Wondering what people do if they still can't complete all the exercises in a given workout? I'm just on Week One, but can already tell that it will be very difficult for me to do the number of pushups/running mans/etc. in each workout by the end of the month. I keep trying and either march it out or do skaters or something else to keep my heart rate up. Thanks! I was thinking that I might just stay in the Phase and keep mixing the workouts up until I can get through them before moving on to Phase II. Any thoughts?

Move on! It is quite alright to make modifications to any routine as long as you are 1.) getting the heart rate up, and 2.) you are attempting to push yourself each and every workout to do the full exercises and then modifying.

I am in week 10 and I still make modifications to many cardio moves because of an injured back. Bottom line, I have still lost inches even though I cannot do all the moves right. Keep pushing forward, because the last thing you want to do is get bored with the routines. Good luck!

That's an excellent question! I've been moving on to make sure I don't get bored and that I keep challenging myself. I'm doing workouts 5 and 6 right now (beginning of Phase 2) but I've definitely had to modify some things. Pushups and plank variations are my weakness, so I'm just doing whatever I can. Phase 1 I would be a few "real" pushups and then moving to girly pushups on my knees. Now my goal is to get real pushups all the way through, even though Jillian's getting all crazy with pushups into side planks. For me, the benefit of working out at home alone is that I don't have to do everything perfectly, and I don't feel bad as long as I'm trying my hardest and getting my sweat on ;)
  • I too have had he same thoughts - I am in the second week of workouts 5 & 6 and am still struggling with some of the moves - windscreen wipers just hurts my back too much and I can't do all of the crab with leg lifts and I am still wobbling all over the place on the single leg squats! I was wondering whether to give it another week to get stronger or to just move on and see what happens? I guess you are constantly getting stronger so even if the first time through a new workout you can't get through all the moves over the 2 weeks you will be able to do more of them.

I say move on. I am on weeks 7 and 8 and there are more push-ups (with a leg raise at that) and she gives you a modifications on the knees. I say just always try to do a few of the advanced version, you may surprise yourself. I plan on doing this program again after the new year and it gives me something to improve on!

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I just finished week 1. I'll see how I'm feeling after week four.

I also say move on and modify if needed! When you finish, you can start over and do some of the harder moves.

I say was feeling the same but decided to move on, i still modify pushups.
I am just about to finish week 3, for a little bit of extra credit on my cardio day i followed it with workout 1 on tomorrows cardio day i'm gonna follow it with work out 2. that way i'm getting extra practice with the easier moves and still having the seperation in front of body back of body exercises.
