How long do you have to stay below 20g Carbs?

I have been eating low carb (for the most part - meaning between 20-30g/day) for the past two weeks and I have lost 2 lbs - which is exciting, but I feel like I need to take this more seriously and do it properly - so how many days does one have to stay under 20g carbs to see a change?

Also, how "high" is high fat? How many grams of fat per day is ok?0

I'm not entirely sure what you're asking. Most people doing low carb, high fat are trying for ketosis. The number of carbs to stay in ketosis will vary from person to person - most just stick with that 20-30 g range. You also need to keep your protein in check. You want enough protein to maintain lean body mass. Excess protein converts to glucose in the body however, so you don't want to go overboard.

I've been doing keto (low carb, high fat, moderate protein) for over a year. My macros are 70-75% fat, 20-25% protein, 5% carbs.
If you want to better understand keto, te reddit FAQ is a great starting place:

^ what Kira said
the grams will vary on your body/calories, it's more about percentage.0 -
Thank you! I guess I should have started my post out with - "I don't know what I am doing - please help" lol. I will check out the calculator and links!0

I am new also, just over a month. I haven't felt this good in a long time. After 2 to 3 weeks I started adding nuts and low sugar fruits, not much, just enough to raise my carbs to about 40 - 50g. I am doing this for mostly health reasons, but I was reading about carb cycling to speed up weight loss. Something you might want to check out. I kindled a few books on the topic which explained why you can stop loosing weight after the glycogen storage is depleted. Has a lot to do with controlling your leptin count.
Good luck on your LCHF diet.0 -

Hi kiramaniac, is that 20-30 carbs net carbs? I just started LCHF. Feels unbelievably good to not crave sweets!
Cheers!

i think that is my whole problem..i am addicted to sweets/carbs. when i low carbed it i did great and dropped weight...for me it would ahve to be about lifestyle and not ever going back to pasta and baked potatoes and sweets. aka CHOCOLATE. i guess i will just have to bite the bullet and get back to basics for a few weeks. i tried WW and it makes me feel like a failure. i always end up blowing it mid day..gaining and losing the same 5 pds. so i am going to switch back to what makes me not crave. just have to find keto sticks in canada
any ideas?0 -

I'm fairly new to this also, but have been eating the paleo way for around two months. I did find a great site you can check out if you want, that talks about ketogenics and has the calculator too. It's http://www.ruled.me/keto-diet/ Good luck!0
