help with shin pain

I started running a couple of weeks ago, but I have ran on and off for the last couple of years. About a week ago, my shins (more specifically the insides of my shins right above my ankles) started hurting. I immediately thought shin splints, and had a day of rest in between by runs, which helped a little. Today, I noticed that my left leg is just sore, but my right leg hurt so much that I had to limp to my car. It doesn't hurt when it is resting, but hurts when I walk and to push on it. It is definitely different than the shin splints I have had before. Anybody have this?
I am trying good old RICE, but I really want to be able to run on Wednesday!
