Tips, Tricks and "Aha" Moments

In the Introductions thread, someone mentioned the extra challenge of weekends - socializing, eating out, etc. It got me thinking that someone else may have a technique for avoiding those sneaky weekend temptations. And THAT got me thinking that probably everyone has a TIP or TRICK for something or other that may be helpful to others. Things along the lines of "drink a glass of water before meals" or "use smaller plates so portions seem bigger" or "bring your own snack to _____"
If there is some method of avoiding certain foods, resisting temptations, curbing craving, hacking your brain, etc. that has worked for you, please share those here!!! And if there is some small change, or trick, or mindset, or event that made all the difference, that is what I call an "Aha" moment!
For me, my "Aha" moment came when I realised an extra, completely unnecessary, meal had snuck into my life: second breakfast. I had been not very successfully (and half-assedly) doing myFitnessPal for a few months, but as soon as I quit making morning coffee break an entire meal (now I have a glass of water, and maybe a date or something) I started seeing results. I felt kind of stupid once I figured it out, haha! Such a simple thing!
