Is it too late to change our 40 something bodies?

I have lost some weight but mostly in my arms and legs, of course not my belly as much. Is there any hope in changing my apple shape body. What are your success stories? What workouts are you doing? I'm going back to running soon. I hope to do a 1/2 marathon next spring so need to start training.

I would say the only time it is too late is when we stop trying. Sadly our stomachs are probably the last place to really tone and show weight loss. Think it is just a cruel twist of fate myself, but if you stick to it then yes I think you can get where you want to be. May want to add lifting in your routine from other post I have read on MFP.

I agree with everyone. It's never too late. There are countless stories of middle aged to even seniors who make dramatic changes to their bodies for the better.

As gitnfit2 said, bellies are usually the hardest to notice a change.

Truth as it be, research has proven that there is no way to target any particular area to lose fat. Your body puts it on or off as it sees fit. The best advise is to lower your body fat as much as you can until your body itself decides to target the areas you like to see it drop. That means if you want to see it come off your hips or belly, you may have to wait until your body drops it from your thighs or chest.

Even though you find fat to be unattractive and unhealthy, your body sees it as it's security blanket. Your body doesn't understand your motivation for weight lost and will at times in certain circumstances actually fight your weight lost endeavers. Targeting specific places is an impossibility. Your body despite your motivation actually likes and wants to keep fat on. And if it must reduce fat levels, it will do it in a priority it sees appropriate.

However, to answer your question, no matter how old you are, with the proper diet and exercise, you can and will achieve the healthier looking you (whatever you and your body can negotiate). :-)

I don't think you can change your actual body shape no matter what your age is. If you have a pear shape, then you have a pear shape. If you have an apple shape, you have an apple shape.

You can however lose excess fat no matter what age you are.
