Question about Ketostix

Hi everybody! So, I just got some Ketostix and I'm super excited to confirm that I am, indeed, producing ketones. I'm hoping someone can tell me though, is it better to be at the max concentration of ketones, or is it better for it to be lower? I've heard two rationales on this, one saying that more is always better, but the other says that it's actually better not to have too many because that means your body isn't using them efficiently and you're "spilling" them over. Does anyone know which is true? I just want to make sure I'm using them correctly. Thanks!

Ketostix are binary. They only detect excess Ketones (aceto-acetate) being excreted in urine. You are either in or out. There is no way of knowing if you are deeper in Ketosis without testing your blood.

When you get deeper purple, it can mean that you are dehydrated so drink more!

Congrats anyway for getting into Ketosis! :)

If you're deep purple and you're drinking water like a boss, then you're *probably* in 'deep' ketosis. But ketosis is ketosis, and the color level hasn't affected my personal weight loss. As long as there is color, it seems to work for me.

But like FXOjafar said, to really know your ketone level, blood testing is what you should do.
  • Thanks you guys! I drink about 10-12 glasses of water a day so I'm not worried about being dehydrated. My husband says I should drink more but honestly I don't see how I possibly can without bursting at the seams! Anyhow thanks for the clarification, that really helps :)

I've noticed that when I only have 8 to 10 glasses of water, the sticks are really dark, but when I stick to 16 cups a day, it is much lighter....just my experience though.

I came here to ask a question but this post totally answered that question for me. I was concerned because my ketostix had gotten very light recently. But I've been drinking a lot more water so I guess I'm okay. Thank you!
