workout timetable

hi guys,

we just purchased a full rack of dumbbells, 16 pairs of differing weights for home use; wife, me & 2 teenage sons will all be using

I found a good website which details different routines for working on different muscle groups, which seem to reduce to 7 main muscle areas to work on,

my question is about how to organise a workout routine for us,

should we work on 1 group each day, using all 7 days,

or target 2 muscle groups, 3 timer per week?

thoughts & recommendations please,

(we're ok with reps etc., wife & 1 son like low weight, high reps, me & other son will be doing 5x5 heavy)

thank you

I just opened my food diary in case you wanted to see, complete except for last Saturday when we had a family celebration.

    I hit my original goal recently;
SW 98kg, GW 80kg, it's now lowered to 78 just to keep me honest going forward

I have osteoarthritis in my right knee which prevents running & loaded squats; I walk average 4 miles every day for exercise

How long have you been lifting for? If you have been, what routine(s) were you doing?

How long have you been lifting for? If you have been, what routine(s) were you doing?

we (my wife & 2 sons are in this with me) took delivery of 16 pairs of dumbbells last Saturday; 1-10kg, then 12.5, 15, 17.5, 20, 22.5 & 25, along with racks for them & a bench which folds from upright to flat and points in-between.

I've lifted off and on over the years; wife & I were mixing lifting with cardio in a gym till July this year & had a gratis private lesson from one of the coaches on heavy lifting so although we haven't been lifting we have a reasonable base on knowledge of form.

wife & eldest son want/ plan to do high reps, low weights; me & younger son plan 5-8 reps progressive.

my question is about how to combine work on the various muscle groups & to get recommendations about frequency of workouts & types of lifting.

    thx

    hi Sara, SS,

I've done a lot of research on this now & got some routines going for me & the family that everybody seems happy with,

I appreciate that you guys are both busy and inundated at the moment so I'm happy if you take my case off your pile & lock this thread,

thx for all you do anyway,

    Cliff :)
