Hi all,
I have a friend that will be going out to Boston for xmas. I want to give her a list of brews to look for so she can bring them back for me. So...
Anyone got some must try suggestions of beers that are local or only accessible from that area? Anything outstanding that I can't get in Michigan...
Cheers!!

Pft!.... You can get TONS of great stuff in Michigan, LOL.
But, check out this website...I believe it's updated regularly (?) It lists distribution for each state and you can click on two states to compare what they have in common and stuff you can only get in either one of them.

There's a link at the top that says 'compare distribution'...if you click that you can choose both states. It will tell you what is distributed in the STATE though...will take a little more work to figure out what she will be able to get in the Boston area specifically.0 -
Not really sure what you can get, or what you like, but some ideas based on things I like from breweries in NE
Alchemist (very limited distribution even in Boston, but definite score if you like IPAs), Allagash, Clown Shoes, Gearys, Jack's Abbey, Long Trail, Pretty Things, Smuttynose. White Birches
and a shout out to some NY beers that might not make it out your way Captain Lawrence, Ithaca, Saranac (I'm guessing you probably get Ommegang, and Brooklyn)
Is she driving?0 -
Thanks Rosie and RTheHutt
I'm not sure if she is driving or not, but I think she is not. Probably taking a flight over there.
I like all styles, and if there are exceptional examples of any style I am game for trying them out. Having said that... I am partial to IPA's, DIPA's Scotch Ales, Ryes and Reds and I'm always game for anything barrel aged.
Thanks to another MFP friend I have been lucky enough to partake of that "Most Excellent" Heady Topper and have already instructed my friend that if she sees any of that to grab it.
It's true I can get quite a bit here in Michigan, that's why I'm looking for those hard to gett gems like Heady Topper. Brews that are very local out that way still, but have a great buzz and following from the fans.
Keep em coming. :-)0
