Injuries and set backs over 40...blah

I've decided to make myself a test case. Hi, I'm Tim Garmany, I'm 47 years old. I had my left knee(torn menisus) repaired and in a few weeks will have the right shoulder rotator cuff repaired(tore all the tendons loose). I love sports, love working out with my friends. My new love is Crossfit (most bad *kitten* people on the planet right now). They say you're getting older Tim or maybe you should take it easy now that you're 47. I call BS on it. I told the doc to keep me in the game I'm not done yet. People ask me why do all this. I say because I want it, haven't you ever wanted to do something but never followed through. Why did the first guy climb Mt.Everest? He said because its there. Why do you sit on the couch all the time? Get up and do something, when is the last time you just walked for the sake of walking. Just lettin ya know Ron Ortiz, I'm coming for ya!

It was certainly a wakeup to be reminded that I could take a walk just because I could go take one. Yes, I need to do that.
My motivation to do it is blah blah blah.0 -

You are no where close to done...I turned 40 this year and ran my first 1/2 marathon, just to prove I could. I plan to complete my first full next year. Sorta sad to say but I am in better shape now that in my 30's...Do what you want and let the others worry about themselves. We are old enough to know what we want and young enough to go after it with a passion....0

I am in better physical and mental shape now at almost 45 than I ever was in my 20s or 30s. It has also taken me almost 10 months to recover from a nasty run-in w/ a medication that acted as a neurotoxin to my body, causing me all sorts of pain and grief. BUT, I'm still here and I'm still in the game and will never let someone else tell me what my limits are!!
One of my favorite quotes:
“Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent. The slogan “press on” has solved and always will solve the problems of the human race” – Calvin Coolidge0 -
ZILLA...get that shoulder better and you'll be BACK IN THE GAME. I have an issue with a herniated disc and I told the specialist Monday the same thing. I'm probably having surgery for a spinal fusion in January, but my goal is to be running by the summer and back at my previous pace from 2012-13. Good luck to you and Happy New Year. 2014 is in trouble after we recover and are back at em!!!0
