Neuroprotective Benefits of Ketones

I think the ketogenic diet appeals to many for it's ability to help individuals lean out. However, I would argue that it is less known for it's potential to provide neuroprotective benefits. The exact mechanisms of action are unclear, but it is believed ketones are a better fuel source for your brain. Anyone, (the other member lol at this point) have any thoughts or information to share about this?

  • Hi! I am learning lots about Keto now. I research it daily. From what I am reading it is the most researched diet ever. I liked reading this site :

It kinda reminded me of your topic...hope you enjoy it too!

    Hi group,

I have listened to probably 10 to 15 different podcasts about the benefits of ketosis for epilepsy and seizure patients. The latest one I listed too was about a woman (Dr.) who actually cures her son seizures with a ketogenic diet. Her site is here: http://www.dietforseizure.com/

My Dr has me on a ketogenic diet for seizures (not epilepsy) in the hopes that I can reduce or stop taking my seizure medication (topomax) which has plenty of it's own side effects.

Today I actually purchased a ketone breath meter. it is still fairly new but the blood ketone strips which are for more accurate that the cheap urine sticks get pretty costly. ($2.60 each if I can find them on sale). So $100 for a meter that requires no strips seemed like a good deal. i found a few review pages and it seems promising. I will compare it to my blood strips for a bit so I can see how it compares. (an N=1). Here is the one I got. http://www.ketonix.com
Has anyone else tried this meter?
